Mobitix with Virgin Trains
Hello, can someone please offer advice.

I have always used the e.ticket website with virgin trains, which allows me to get cheap tickets from manchester to London.

During the weekend of October 10th & 11th i made serveral attempts to purchase some tickets, however once i put my card details in the website could say their has been an error and i should try again.

I did try serveral times and got the same problem each time i put my card details in. I rang virgin trains who explained that their was a problem and they were going to fix it.

In the end i gave up but to my horror on Monday morning i found i had been charged for all the tickets i had attempted to buy which came to £75 not only that i havent recieved any confirmation or tickets to show for it.
What can i do.
Thank you

I'm sorry to hear about your plight with Virgin Trains! My first suggestion would be to find the telephone number for their customer services team, and give them a bell. They should agree that it is their error and offer you a full refund. (As this is their error, be very insistent that they don't deduct 'admin' charges and the suchlike).

If things don't appear to progress, I would try speaking to your card issuer. You didn't say what type of card you were using, but if it was a credit card, you should be able to dispute the transaction and raise a chargeback without too much hassle. If it's a debit card, your luck may be more variable, as policies vary from bank to bank, but just try speaking to them to see what they can do.

    Good luck!

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
  • Thank you for your reply.

I have tried the Virgin Costumer helplines a couple of time, it adds to the problem that the call centres are in India and they cant grasp what my problem is, following my last phone call i was told that money would be credited into my account but they didnt take any details.

I am currently writting letters to the complaints dept at virgin and to their consumer relations dept, if anyone else knows the best place to contact please tell me.

I will also contact my bank, but i did use a debit card!!!!
    Thanks

I struggled with this same service on Saturday. I booked a return trip only for the site to take my payment and then ask me to contact customer services. I couldn't find a number so I e mailed them to ask what the problem was.

I then went away for three days (thank you Ryan air £4 flights!) and arrived home yesterday to a mail saying they had had problems and people had been charged twice but this would be rectified.

I then mailed again to say fair enough but where are my tickets!! For some bizarre reason they arrived on my phone at 7.30 this morning. I have not yet checked my credit card to see how much was taken but I'm sure it will get sorted out.

Just to let you know you are not alone and it should get sorted! HTH

PS Their site is still down for me too

  • This is a farse!

The iPhone doesn't work with MMS so I spent ages waiting to receive the text from Mobitix as I needed to book tickets for 4th November. Tickets were good price £14 return or £65 via normal Virgin train site so saving considerable.

I emailed Virgin Friday to say that I couldn't see where I could print pdf (as I have done a few times before over last 4 months) as iPhone wasn't option - then thanks to reading here (still no reply from Virgin) that the print P@H pdf was no more!

So still without a ticket and needed to book wasted 1 hour this morning digging out old Nokia - took SIM out of iPhone and into old Nokia then went to Virgin/Mobitix on web, registered to send text - this time it worked as Nokia has MMS so now waiting for ticket as it says 2 hours to recieve.
However when I travel next week will have to take old Nokia, iPhone and a pin to remove iPhone SIM and when ticket inspector comes round will have to swap SIM cards to show him ticket on Nokia along with my debit card as proof of payment.

THIS IS PATHETIC, I spoke to Virgin in UK after 3 Indian calls and they said that they would get back via email - this is typical of some consultant feeding Virgin with a 'paperless future' etc etc - how can you introduce something that is not universal across all phone platforms plus the unreliability of using text as the ONLY form of ticket??!!

sorry for rant just really annoyed and running late now.

    Goat:(
  • I agree that this is becoming a farce with mobtix. What happens if you do not have a mobile phone? All this gobbledegook on what to do if your mobile does not accept the text is nonsense to me. Virgin, you will lose a lot of customers. Bring back e-tickets asap.

  • i have just tried to use mobitix for the first time and after about 12 attempts to register my phone i finally got that bit done only to then realise i had put the wrong date for the tickets so i phoned virgin within 5 minutes of this happening only to be told by some one in India sorry there is nothing we can do i have wrote 3 times to them and sent 4 E-Mails to them and guess what not a single reply.
Another great example of how Virgin treat there customers
but why should they care as they have the Monopoly on travel by train From Manchester to London

  • I'm so glad I'm not alone struggling with this RIDICULOUS system!!

I spent 4 hours on Monday (10.11.08) desperately trying to register my mobile phone to get these uber cheap tickets... I kept recieving a text from the.trainline.com which asked me to follow the link, which I did.. and it just kept timing out! Very frustrating!

I emailed the customer service section as there was no number anywhere to be found, and was assured a reply within 12 hours..its now Thursday and I'm yet to have a response!

I also (regrettably) got thru to the helpline (after being given 3 wrong numbers by various people working in Indian call centres who could not grasp what I was after) and the woman very helpfully told me that 'if my phone is not compatible to recieve MMS then I should go to the main site and book there' - what?? and pay £78 instead of £6?????!!!! I don't think so! Oh, she also said 'buy a new phone then' - haha yeah very cost effective solution!

I spoke with O2 on Tuesday to ensure my phone is set up correctly, which it is.. I am able to use MMS, WAP and all internet features, i have a new Samsung G600.

The thing which adds to my frustration is that Ive also tried registering my boyfriends phone and the same problem is happening, and on my Dads! When explaining this to the woman at Virgin she said it 'must be coincidence' that ALL our brand new WAP enabled phones arent accepting Mobitix!!! Whatever!

So I'm FUMING.. my option is to either spend 5 hours on a coach or to fork out £78 for a single from Manchester to Euston which I'm loathed to do!!!

      Raaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • Hi There,

I have spend around 2 weeks trying to get this working but with no joy, i am currently on O2 and have tried around 4-5 phones all of which are O2,

This is the error I get when following the link to the test tickets

sytem.nullreferenceexception:objectreference not set to an instance of an object at mtix.mmt.mtixmmtwebservice.capabilitycheck(stringmobilenumber,stringpstruseragent)
Rang virgin and they couldn’t help, so I have just rang O2 who told me that O2 as a provider are not compatible with Mobitix, is this true?

Has anyone with a Sony Ericsson W810i got tickets ok? Also has anyone on O2 managed to get it to work?

Any help advice would be greatly appreciated!
