There was something on the news the other day suggesting you should take dollars rather than krona.Stompa0

I have just been to my bank to order some Krona, they have stopped trading with it at the moment. Their advise was to take some US dollars and change it there. I then phoned their travel line and was told to take UK sterling and change it there.
I think I will be taking UK sterling, US dollars, debit and credit cards.0 -
I have managed to get some krona from Marks and Spencer today. They don't seem to have a problem getting hold of it.0

rb1 did you not read my post?
You can get it at the airport... never had a problem getting money out from Iceland with a nationwide card.0 -
To Cundall
I did read it but it's my young daughter who's going on a school trip and is taking a relatively small amount for spends. She doesn't use cards.
Thanks:rotfl:0 -
Can people grow up with the pathetic xenophobic racism? I can guarantee you that the average Icelander on the street isn't chuckling away with glee at the current situation and they are in fact in a much worse situation than any of us facing their country going bankrupt.
If you turn up there with some dollars they will be very glad to exchange it for you. The ATM machines should still be working as well.0 -
Who was being racist?0

take dollars or sterling and keep an eye on the exchange rate - it's only going one way...0

Hi there. Just wondered if there are any more experiences out there? We've booked a 5 day new year break to Iceland and currently cannot get any Kronas.
Does anyone know how things are calculated in times like this. If we just pay with our credit cards most of the time and get a bit out via a cash point over there, are the exchage rates close to what the system says (ie, currently 246 ISK to the pound)
If so, not really too bothered about taking any money over there. Apart from tips and a few drinks in the barscan't see why we just can't get a £100 or so out when we're there.
