Wednesday 15/10/08 What small dfw things have you done today???

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Hi to any new posters and a big shout to the usual gang:j

    Morning Sophiesmum and everyone else!
Am most jealous when I read of you making loaves in your breadmaker. Must save for one!
Anyway, heres my list for today:

    * Check on-line banking and marvel at lack of funds :rotfl:
    * Walk (not drive) to post office to post ebay parcel
    * Find another 3 things to ebay
    * Have a NSD
    * Transfer funds from paypal to bank account (got enough to get step-daughters £60 tv for xmas - yippee!!!!)

    Have good Wednesdays all!

    Miss P
    xx

  • Hi Sophiesmum and all who follow...

    Well the plan today is:

    • Currently charging mobi at work
    • Brought lunch to work
    • Hubby paying cheque in from Music Magpie for me (which will get us out of the overdraft!)
    • Check online bank/credit card/quidco/pigsback etc
    • Enter a few comps
    • Use free gym membership tonight (didn't go last night :o)
    • Store cupboard dinner
    • Have a NSD - haven't been doing too well with this lately!
    • Check Amazon books - put a few for sale last night and not sure if I did it right...
    • Look for budgeting spreadsheets online
    • Try and encourage pay day to come a bit quicker! 9 days and counting.... :rotfl:

Have a great day everyone xx

My DFW day looks like this...

    1. Earned £30 on top of my wages today (£15 already earned, just got to wait for the other £15).

    2. Have a NSD.

    3. Finally get through to cancel my phone insurance, saving me £6 per month.

    4. Reduced my overdraft from £1200 to £400 (I know this technically doesn't save me money, but if I don't have it, I can't spend it!)

    5. Charge laptop in work, and use my free time there to do work I would have usually done at home.

    6. Look ay ways I can further reduce my outgoings.

I have mentioned it on my diary, but I am in a position where I may be able to clear my overdraft completely either this month (if I am super-stingey) or next month! That would be AMAZING for me, and allow me to focus my efforts on paying off my next burden, the CC.

    Morning All :hello:
Well I do feel better, thank you so much for your kind words Piq, I had "something in my eye" for a little while after reading your message.:o I'm a little more in control (a 27 point list of things that HAVE to be done helped, as did a long distance e-mail nag from Popeye:rolleyes: ) thanks Sophiesmum.

I'm still envious of those of you who can do on-line banking. When can I start getting uppity with the bank for my replacement card? I phoned a week ago.

Miss Piggy, while you're saving, keep an eye out on Freecycle, breadmakers do come up, but also get taken swiftly. Or if you look on OS there's a thread on an artisan bread making system that seems simple......

    As for today, I have/will:
    • Do any on-line surveys that come up
    • cleaned the bathroom with star-drops *I need a smilie with a halo here*
    • go to the gym tonight for the final must do of the mystery shop (I do hate the resigning bit :p ) but I can carry on using it until month end :D
    • think about listing things on e-bay at the weekend. There's going to be free listing for items starting at 99p, so not my usual stuff which I start at £10.....
    • Phone bank to chase my missing card.
    • washing on at 30, line dried.
    • check for MS's
    • plan my veg patch. Mum of 4 on OS has sent me a spreadsheet starter, and suggested that veg seeds are cheap in Wyevale at the moment..... :D The weather forecast is dry for Saturday......
    • sparkle :rotfl: :D
    Have a good day everyone
  • HI All
Bit later today - its manky here and dark and drizzly - another gorgeous day on the isles lol :)

This am left DS and DD in bed and came to work - DD has pal and mother there so no need to panic! One of my rams is looking a bit dodgy - don't need him dying whist the farm manager is on holiday - not good - so will check him later again - he's probably just had a late night.....

    Today:
Freeze the extra food we made last night
NSD today? Think I had one yesterday unless you count paying back the WTFC grrrrrrrrrr
Milk got delivered so no need to go or buy anything (remind myself of this all day)
Meetings at work so drinking a cuppa free of charge
    Need do some writing
    Look at bank
    Charge phone at work
Think of interesting and exciting things to do in holidays
Works dinner on Friday - don't really need the expense so might just make an excuse and head in later for a drink (very DFW)
Look sparkly - am stripey this am so that counts and have a big meeting so wearing silly knee length stripey socks (loan from DD) to give me some confidence (no one will ever know so shhhhhhhh - supposed to be a serious scientist)

have fun - home made bread yum - am too lazy and stooze mine from mr t late at night when its all 17p - freezer full of the stuff - told you I was lazy!!

Reading these always makes me feel good, don't have a spreadsheet so will be listening in on how to make one - am just very lazy!!

Just looked ay my CC statement and I was being charged an insurance of 79p oer $100 balance. Strange it is on Dollars, but I am sure there is a money making ploy there!

Anyway, it's £20 per month on the CC I am now saving! Yay!

    Morning everyone!!

Hope everyone is sparkling this grey and dismal day...

Olive Oyl, I am really pleased you're feeling better, I wondered how you were getting on.

Perhaps we should all take Fay's lead and start wearing silly socks for confidence and attitude. Unfortunately, I am wearing a skirt at the moment so it may not have the desired effect :rotfl:Think I'll stay with the black opaques for today...

Any news on the elf??? Did you get the job??

Had a lecture from the librarian on taking more care of library books (it was only on the stairs) the good news is, I can have a refund of my £6.29 minus administration costs in "quite a while" hmm, didn't take quite a while to take the money off me...

...and I won the lottery! a practice run for the big one, I hope! have put it on the payment a day.

    Today I have/will
    • come to work
    • bought in breakfast and lunch
    • made a payment a day
    • made loaf in breadmaker
    • posted an amazon parcel
    • sort out things for the 99p listing deal at the weekend on ebay
