  • I don't believe that there is currently a software upgrade for the PVR. Although no doubt one is being rushed out asap. Will it be tested this time, what other bugs will it contain?

Holding onto a faulty unit in the hope that the new software/firmware upgrade will fix things sends the manufacturer the message that its okay to send out untested faulty goods.

At one time there was no way of upgrading firmware/software on anything. It simply wasn't needed because things worked properly. Aldi customers have been suckered into doing the testing that should have been done by the manufacturer.

Everyone should be taking these back.
  • Mine went back to Aldi today. The manager said 'erm, we've had a lot of these back'.

I had bought a Fusion FVRT100 as a present for someone so after returning the unit to Aldi I went and bought one for myself. Believe me this is a better machine than the technosonic but costs £120 eg Currys. It has proper twin tuners and rewind live tv. It can record and playback subtitles.

    Cheers
  • Totally agree, everyone should take these back to Aldi. Just a few things cross my mind here- both problems (no sound and can't record on Channel 3 - itv1) were immediately apparent. Come to think of it, I had the 'no signal' problem first. If they're the obvious problem then what other not-so-obvious problems will emerge down the line? I eventually did speak to someone at Key Electronics. They are simply a service arm and nothing to do with the manufacturer. They told me that this problem was only apparent in the Manchester area. This thread disproves that. There is a fundamental problem with these boxes. If you hang on to it then you will have accepted it WITH the problem. You know about the problem, you don't return it then you live with it. THERE WILL BE NO SOFTWARE FIX for this problem in the foreseeable future. This was made clear by the bemused man at Key Electronics. It's my guess that the manufacturer will rely on people living with the problem and not returning the boxes. You pays your money......
  • Can I ask why you have / need 3 PVR's?

(Justify if I need more than one!)

I have a Pace Twin, a Digifusion 200, a Humax 800, a Humax 9200 and now the Aldi 101 which will probably go back.

can I justify them all.

    NO!!! ;)

But it beats spending the pension on booze and women. Mind you I still have an appetite for a good chianti. :p

I think that Aldi has a no-quibble returns policy which is in addition to your statutory rights, so you can return the box later than the Sale of Goods Act would allow for. You'll have to verify this, of course.

Quite often with these goods, it's a lot less hassle for the retailer to refund than to face the wrath of the customer anyway.

But you already said that the guy was talking porkies about the problems with it, so I wouldn't rely on that.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

Two questions about the 80gb ALDI Freeview PVR:-

    1) Is it possible to use it in an area with no Freeview access, ie is it possible to record off an analogue TV?

    2) Can I record onto the PVR from my FTA Satellite Box and if so how? ( Currently I can view the Satellite Channels thru the Aldi PVR with Scarts thru the loopthrough)

    Help and advise appreciated
  • OK - the "no signal" problem returned again after a long period of perfect behaviour. It happened just after spending a couple of hours playing back a recording. Again, the "hard reset" worked. Just managed to get through to the very helpful helpline person after 40 minutes of "Digital Dave" and am now on the list for a swap out. I don't really want to give up on this box as, when it is working, it has all the features I want. Noticed that my recording of "Saturday Night Fever" last night was truncated though - presumably because the broadcast was late. However it did manage to record across midnight. I'll just have to remember to edit the times when setting up to record next time. Shame it relies on the timer rather than recognising when a program has started and finished from the digital broadcast itself. And if anyone is wondering about my taste in programs, I chose Saturday night fever specifically because it started before midnight and ended after midnight!

    1) NO

    2) NO
  • Taking it back this afternoon. Bought the DigiFusion FVRT200 from Dixons this morning for £155.00 -asked for a discount to take warranty, then said I didn't want it when I went topay, so still the £15.00 off! Brilliant, so many features, only downer so far is the crap EPG.

I believe from the manual you can record 2 programmes and watch a 3rd, will try it all when I get back from ALDI.

Dixons in Bracknell have 1 FVRT200 left, Currys out of stock nationwaide from what they said for 2-3 weeks, so got a right result.

Shame, as liked the Techno box, but this one looks and feels 3 times better.

So glad to have found this forum, mind you, had I not, wouldn't have bought the ALDi job in the first place!
  • Left the unit on a overnight for the second night and again this morning the picture has lost line lock. Strange, it ran most of yesterday without doing this and has been on this morning for4 hours without any problem. Is it a midnight thing, does winterhill drop signal at night?

To get it back again changing channels or turning off and on with the remote is no goog. It has to be turned off at the back and allowed to reboot.

'No sound when ITV selected' problem is still there did I read on here that an upgrade to cure this will be broadcast at the end of Dec?
