I have decided to destress and rid myself of the Aldi machine. For £160 after cashback and discounts I ordered a Fusion FVRT200 from Currys online. Loads of good reviews...good reliability and excellent picture... easy to use.. can record 2 programs at once... and timeslips (so I think I can catch up with a program being recorded)! 2 year guarantee I think. Also think I saw that an additional hard drive could be added...

Don't blame Linux (which isn't in capitals, by the way) - it's the flaky stuff they have written themselves to go on top which will be the problem. I run Linux on my laptop and can do all these PVR functions with a Hauppuage USB digital TV tuner, without any of these problems.

If it ran Windows it would cost £50 more for the licence, and would no doubt be just as flaky!

Windows won't support Linux partitions (unlike vice versa) because it's against Microsoft's religion. You can apparently get free third party drivers that do, however, so you might want to look for those.

I didn't try to view the drive with windows explorer, I used Acronis Disk Director which will normally recognise a Linux partition but just came up as un-partitioned.

If you liked the 2 minute skips (when your first one was working) you will miss that on the Fusions. It's a matter of personal preference of course but I don't like the murky background on the Fusion OSD's. The Fusions do have recording and chase play advantages over the Techsonic though.

  • Can't believe it, I've set it up and no front display and no response to the buttons on the main unit........Apart from that, it isn't too bad.

I'm reluctant just to take it back unless there are others to replace it. Has anyone got any idea how good Aldi are at giving refunds? Is it worth hanging on to it? Is it likely that they'll get any more stock?

    Decisions, decisions!
  • Now I have an intermittent EPG as well - did work fine for a while..
It's my guess, most of these boxes will be finding there way back to Aldi. Once again, the public have become un-paid beta testers......
There doesn't seem much hope of a "fix" being available for some time so it looks like a re-package and return tomorrow.Pity really

Have you put the switch on the back to on?

    What codes are they mate?

If I can get the Digifusion for that bit more I think I'd take this one back.

Got similar problem with mine. I turn the power on and the display says boot then nothing else happens. It won't respond to the buttons on the main unit or on the remote control. Am I being daft or is it a dodgy one? Wouldn't mind but I waited from 8.30!!

I'm annoyed too as I'm going to have to take mine back tomoroow.

For some reason it's now decided to change channels every time I change the volume level on my TV. It didn't this morning. Bloody useless.

So the Digifusion (the £120 one) is a good system then? Cos for £20 more I might go for it even though it has 1/2 the space....especially if you can add another HDD!

Currently I'd say the Fusion 100 (the £120 one) is more stable than the Fusion 200. The latter is still waiting for an update that the 100 had recently which cured certain long term issues. Having said that the 100 update has now been withdrawn because it caused some new problem. See the following Digital Spy thread for details:-

Personally I don't like the OSD's on the Fusions and they lack convenient advert skipping features. This 2 minute skip on the Technosonic is one of the best I have seen.
