  • I'm glad my impatience caused me to make up my mind to buy the Boots one! I got it yesterday and it is brilliant! No problems save for some millisecond occassional freezing of the picture...but hey I'm using an indoor aerial without booster. Sorry guys to hear about your problems.

Working in Quality control what you will probably find that a problem has been flagged up and management have decided that rather than dissapoint a retailler and possibly incur a penalty they will make a "commercial" decision and ship them anyway, sad but it happens.

I bet Aldi are dissappointed now. This won't do anything to improve their image - though they are good when it comes to refunds. I have just discovered that the Egg cashback for Currys online is now back to 10% so my Fusion 200 is only going to cost me £150 delivered! :-) Still £50 dearer than the Aldi one - but more chance of it working!

    yet another disapointed customer :(

Mine works perfectly but with no sound at all, even after trying up and down all programs

I haven't heard my problem mentioned on here so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Was considering openning it to see if it was a loose connection ? Signal strength is fine and have tried outputing audio through all available conections.
  • Can anyone tell me is there any pvr freeview that allows you to record from your sky box?

I got my parents to pick up one of these from Aldi yesterday as they live MUCH closer to a store than I do. The thing is, I won't get to try it out until the new year. Given the problems people are having, anyone know how Aldi are with returns? Would I be OK returning this at the end of January, say? Of course I may be one of the lucky ones - maybe I won't have to return it.

Don't worry. Last week I returned their 160mb dvd/hdd pvr that I bought in September - no problems, cashback to the card on the spot.

Are you running through the aerial cable or scart - it might be a scart problem if you are using that.
  • So far another happy customer here. Got one on my way home last night about 6.10pm. Installed it within 10 minutes of getting home, initially had picture but no sound. A quick firm push to make sure the scart lead was seated properly and I had sound. Sounds like Boberts problem too - although after checking this, check you haven't hit the "mute" button and that the players volume is up.

Recording via the EPG timer was fine.

Recording via setting the time was fine.

Pausing Live TV and then starting was fine.

    Digital text fine.

Not tried recording one channel yet and pausing live tv yet though.

    No issues with sound/channels etc

Using this on an integrated Sony TV so not a huge leap for me, although the digital text is much much quicker and if it will record one channel and at the same time pause TV on the other tuner then its fantastic.

Hoping to be able to hook it up to the pc and "record" some files off there or record straight from a DVD.

Just need to work out how to get my Lost Season 2 files onto it and in what format.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

  • Picked up a box last night and there still seemed to be plenty left.

I like being able to record one program whilst using the timeslip feature on another.

But I did not like the fact that the record or timeslip feature does not save the subtitles.

I also found that once I set the timer to record a future program I could no longer record a program by pressing the record button - another bug or two ?
  • I'm quite disappointed by all this. I got my sister to buy one on my behalf for my mum yesterday on the basis of their advertising a freeview box which could record 2 programs at the same time (my mum quite often sets her two videos to record when she is out!). I have not looked at it or taken it out of the box yet, so reading this for the first time today, I think I'll just take it back and get the Fusion FVRT100 for £120 from Currys (is this any good?). Its not a Christmas pressy or anything, and I am in no hurry for it, so I may just wait for the sales and see what happens to the prices.

Having already registered the warranty, I thought it would be amusing to phone Key Warranties, the company handling this aspect for Aldi. The 01422 204010 number which appears on the warranty confirmation just hangs up the instant you connect.

The other number (01422 263257) from the blue warranty card was connected to 'Digital Derek' for over 20 minutes before being put through to a human being. To be fair, Digital Derek did suggest less busy times to phone and the operator I talked to was both pleasant and helpful.

With a little persuasion I found out the following:

    1. this batch consists of 14,000 machines (aaargh!)
    2. they have been inundated with complaints, usually no sound or no signal
    3. they currently have no swop-out stock for replacements
    4. they expect to be able to do swop-outs in 7 to 10 days time
    5. the swop-outs should have updated software
    6. they currently have no technical support info on the PVR-101
    7. they were unaware of the off-air software update facility

I joined the swop-out list just to see what happens - I suspect not much before Xmas, but we'll see . . . watch this space!
