Did she not get clear concise instructions then? If she did not understand the instructions given, did she ask for clarification? Was the failure anything to do with the instructions given by the examiner?

The instructor didn't tell her to go left/right until she was nearly at a junction, so she started to go slowly towards junctions as she was waiting to hear which way to go.

Also, she had to do a 3-point turn on a steep hill and was asked to reverse round a corner where the road went down a hill and my daughter couldn't see down it properly. She marked her down for not looking in her mirrors, which is one thing she is good at. She got the feeling that the woman was trying to make her fail.

Its only her first test, i wouldn't worry about it.

But to be honest the examiner would have given her plenty of warning about which way to turn, you are just hearing your daughters side of it. They are not their to be friendly, they are there to make sure your daughter is safe and capable of driving.

    Is there's something about Mary.

What woman doesn't need things 'explained clearly and concisely' to them?

My daughter has today failed her driving test. As far as Im concerned its just one of those things and you have to move on. However, her instructor told her afterwards that someone at the centre said to him "Oh no, she's got Mary" (name changed). "and I think she's on her period". The instructor also told her afterwards that this Mary always fails people on their first test and is the the worst examiner for failing people at that centre.

My complaint is that when we booked the test the lady on the phone put her down as special needs (which she is because she needs clear, concise instructions. She has a condition similar to dyslexia). However, the centre knew nothing of this. My daughter told the examiner she had special needs and asked that she make her instructions clear. Mary simply said curtly "I don't know anything about that!"

Can I complain that they didn't take her special needs into account?

'Beachdeath' I'm sorry to hear that your pride and joy has failed her test.

Driving examiners are on their own planet.

These are driving situations that she will face in life - would you suggest the test were simpler to allow more to pass rather than be of a standard to reflect real driving conditions?

Driving examiners are trained to give clear and concise instructions - you drive forward until told to do otherwise - you said that your daughter slowed down when coming to junctions - do you not think this could have been interpretted as her being hesitant and lacking in confidence?

There are two sides to this story and you only have one of them - I suggest that if you think your daughter should have passed and so is ready to be left alone in charge of a motor vehicle then she is ready to deal with this situation herself.

This "post mortem" of events may well be prolonging your daughter's agony. Maybe it would be better to move forward with more positive lessons on the driving test route.

And we never have to make quick choices when driving normally?

Sorry but on my test and in my lessons I was told the direction to turn at the point the examiner/instructor wanted me to start indicating.

As for reversing round a corner downhill, if it wasnt considered a safe place to do the manoever it wouldnt be used, your daughter will be one of hundreds who are asked to do that at that point. Yup she has to check mirrors but if she felt she couldnt see adequately then she should have said so to the examiner - although in that case prehaps the mirrors werent adjusted properly?

As I said before I think Id rather fail under a strict examiner than pass under a more relaxed one.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

This thread really sounds like sour grapes, ok so she failed her test you have obviously taken it personally despite saying:-

The first complaint is that she should have been given special consideration, now the places where the manoeuvres were carried out were incorrect as far as you are concerned and the examiner was not fair and was trying to deliberately fail your daughter.

The examiner is trying to evaluate whether a person is capable of driving safely under all conditions this includes three point turns on hills and reversing around corners, if she failed on the use of mirrors it is because in her opinion she could be a danger to other road users, I would suggest your daughter learns from this test and has more lessons to ensure next time she passes.

Life's not fair, and your daughter needs to learn that, without her mum fighting her corner all the time.

She needs to move on, have some more lessons and take the test again.
