personally I just use IE - it does what I want and have had no problems with it. Keep security programs updated and system is still clean and running fast.
Have used firefox on it but didnt really make use of the features so uninstalled it. So it can be OK if you're not looking for loads of whistles and bells .

IE8 really won't put the cat amongst the pigeons IMO, it's playing catchup with Firefox, Chrome is potentially offering an OS environment. By the time it's released to the masses, FF will have had another update, Chrome will be marching ahead.

At a recent tech seminar where MS demo'd IE 8, most of the features they were enthusing about, have been available in other browsers for months, if not longer.

I've been using Firefox for years, it's much more secure than IE (especially if you use some of the fantastic add-ons), faster and all sorts of improvements. I rarely use IE7, it's a dog IMO, so many issues, mind you a great improvement over the total mess than was IE6.

Still Firefox all the way :)

Each to their own though ;)
  • IE8 on Vista with UAC enabled is going to be a really nice, safe combination.

No where near as safe as FF running NoScript, AdBlockPlus, FlashBlock and other add-ons IMO ;)

The UAC isn't the be all and end all, and don't forget many users just switching it off because it's annoying under Vista.

But I'll try to keep an open mind

Since Firefox runs in Medium IL, and IE7 runs in Low IL, I wouldn't confidently be making that statement..

Personally I use Firefox with the NOSCRIPT plugin ~ which has proven to be VERY effective at stopping web based viruses in their tracks

I'm very confident, but as I said before it's just my opinion. MS have made a mess of all sorts of things, and IE has been a mess for ages. FF has been more secure for a long time, and I doubt it'll be beaten by IE8 - but time will tell.

NoScript with FF is almost bomb proof, it's a mature add-on, updated constantly - many professionals, like me, swear by it.

I cant believe its so SLOW. My processors will compute billions of instructions per second, yet that damn UAC can stall my computer for like 10 seconds 'thinking about it'

The sheer fact that Microsoft are rolling out a new operating system near the end of 2009 speaks volumes to me
