Is expensive dog food really best?

I recently changed from Burns (not for financial reasons but I was unhappy with the quality recently) to Skinners Lamb and Rice. Good food at a reasonable price and they get the same amount as the Burns. A lot of their foods are vat free for "working" dogs.

They also do a large bite type.

This website seems good for information about pet foods and contents.

We've changed to Arden Grange for both the dog and my 2 cats and they love it and thrive on it. We changed from Costco's own brand on the advice of our trainer and it's what she feeds her own dogs. She also recommended James Wellbeloved and Burns - mainly because the protein in it isn't cheap rubbish which can make your dog hyper - as my dog is a collie/gsd cross and naturally hyper this is obviously important
Have to say I'd not go back now - and it doesn't work out THAT expensiveI buy ours from www.vetuk.co.uk - much cheaper

Just compared the prices and VetUk comes out slightly cheaper
The lamb and rice is £25.89 on Berriewood and £24.59 on VetUk - not much of a difference - but usually I order enough so I get free delivery anyway

LOL cross posted - I guess it depends on which arden grange you use
As Kira is far from a puppy I guess we'll stick to the lamb and rice hehehehehe

I feed my dog on Burns Mini Bites and my cat on Burns cat food, yes they are a financial shock when buying large bags etc from VerUK to save on deliverary.
I've recently made friends with my local pet shop, which is next door to the Supermarket I use, and they are very kind and are prepared to split large bags into smaller i or 2 kilo bags. They are a Burns supplier and I've now got a regular monthly order for 2lgs size bags which works out great, certainly I was spending around £10-£14 a month on wet cat food and Iams in the supermarket, and now it's down to £7-8 with Burns and my cats teeth are so much cleaner and better and his coat is lovely and shiney and he bounces around like a young lad even though he's 12 now.
The dog has been a bit fussy recently so I've been trying various flavours of Burns, but she's now back on the mini bites and wolfing it down. Artarky and other 'working dog' foods are VAT free, but check the amount of protien is suitable for your dog, if you have a couch potato dog and are feeding high protien food it will soon need to go to the doggy gym.
Google John Burns and they will send you some very imformative booklets and some samples, as will many of the other manufacturers0
