I had expected the native speaker test would involve ringing up and making a recording over the phone - not on the computer!

Seems idiotic to me anyway. They rang me up out of the blue a couple of weeks ago and asked me to do some calls for them (which I've now done). Doesn't that prove I'm a native speaker???

They will call you to do a recording but first you have to do the test. I don't know about Mac but I have done mine through my mobile phone (just recorded the sound and then copied it just like you do with receipts for Gap and RE). I think this is an easier way.

That's sounds awfully technical to me! I am a real Luddite, I'm afraid!

For Gap I actually have to take a photo of the receipt because my scanner (for some reason) won't connect to my computer.

I'm puzzled by what you say - they have not offered to call me to do a recording, just sent me PC instructions to record onto the PC. I'm stuck at this point but hubby has a PC so it's possible he has a microphone on his machine, but that will have to wait til he's home.

What test is there in addition to the recording? No-one has mentioned a test, just the recording.

They will only call you and record the same sentence "about how good the weather is in England" after they receive your test recording.
Do you have a recording facility on your mobile? have a quick look. it should be under entertainment.
PS. What I meant by test is the recording sample.

About the scanner, if it is new you should have received an installation CD with it which you need to install into your computer. This is so the computer can recognise that the scanner is there and knows which make etc. Anyway all you have to do here is place the CD in the drive and follow the instructions. If you need any help just ask, no one knows all there is to know about everything.

It's a combined printer/scanner/fax thingy (Brother MFC-215C). It's not new - I had it when I had my old computer and it worked fine. The printer still works fine so I know it is connected to the computer, but the scanner has never worked since I switched to Mac... I suspect we haven't set it up properly but I leave all that stuff to hubby.

Would anyone like to bet with me that Gyp query the MS I had today? It was one of those visits where virtually every answer on the form became a 'no'. Just had one of those sales assistants who didn't want to actually sell me anything.

Maybe I'm being too harsh on Gyp but my experience is they really only seem to like positive reports.

Just take a picture of the receipt with a digital camera\mobile phone and upload the image.

Yes, that's what I usually do - thanks!

This discussion was actually about trying to do the native speaker test for Bare - not sure how scanners came into the conversation, but never mind!
