Try this. It ticks all the boxes for you and is within your budget. Unfortunately I haven't tried the range myself, but it seems to be what you're looking for and is up to date. I had another search around after finding this but the HDCP is the sticking point. This is the only one I could find that had that and was within your price range.

mmm maybe i might have to drop HDCP in order to get a better quality/value monitor...

It is necessary for good graphics?

Can anyone give a non-wiki definition of it?

    thanks for your help
  • HDCP is just a form of copy protection.

What are you going to be using this monitor for? If just for gaming then you don't need HDCP. You also won't need it if you're going to be playing primarily low resolution videos on your PC. It becomes more useful if you're going to be connecting it to other hardware. For example, if you're going to be connecting it to a DVD player to play DVDs then it could be useful. Otherwise you really don't need it.

I am thinking of connecting it to a PS3, Sky + Box and eventually getting a blu-ray optical drive for the computer.

So the resolution is of utmost importance.

Sounds like you're flinging yourself with force into the hi definition era. In which case I would highly recommend getting a monitor with HDCP. Without it you could have problems with the Blu Ray playback using the optical drive. There have been issues in the past with Blu Ray playback over a connection that is not protected with HDCP. The 'copy protection' another user mentioned is really content protection, as opposed to placing restrictions on duplicating, which is what is traditionally meant by 'copy protection'.

Loool i have got that SERIOUSLY confused! ok scrape HDCP...

Gosh... and i thought i was computer savvy...

No actually i didn't get it that confused since it future-proofs your monitor (somewhat)

So you do need it to produce hi-def on your monitor?

Reassurance Sourced at this article : Got HDCP?

Has anyone found any decent deals on ebay?

What i have found with ebay is that these ebay companies buy cheap monitors and then flood the ebay market with these masses of identical monitors bumped up about £50 more. Am i right?

You don't necessarily need it to produce hi-def on your monitor (there are other ways to do it, such as through a VGA cable), but if you're intending to use this monitor regularly for hi definition playback using the optical drive and/or the PS3 then it really is essential.
