Hi
we are moving into a new build house phone line has never been turned on before. Have been told we will have to pay for this service.
Talk Talk seem to be the cheapest broadband/phone deal = £15.49
They recommend using Post Office as a New line provider (with no contract tie in) set up = £110 up to10 days
(as compared to BT = £26.49/month £125 new line set up in up to 16 days).
Am I missing something?
Does this sound a decent deal?
oh and lastly, does anyone know what the engineers do to justify this £110-125 call out charge to set up the new line?
the words `money` and `old rope` spring to mind.
both contracts are for 18months

If Talk Talk are such a good phone service ask them why dont they provide new lines.
BT will connect you for £29.99 18 month contract.
See: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=878915
Dont forget the cost involves wiring the exchange, wiring from exchange to your new home, paying engineers etc etc. I doubt if if you would want to pay full going rate for such work.;)0 -
Avoid TalkTalk like the plague. I have just bought myself out of my TT contract to join O2 and it's been worth every penny.0

I too would avoid talk talk...my line rental broadband and calls are with them and my phone has been off now for 6 weeks, despite repeated calls to them I just keep getting fobbed off, they have appalling customer service, they admit its their fault and will fix it but i'm still waiting0

Thanks everyone
will brood on your comments
it`s just that BT are rubbish too and were really unhelpful when I wanted to get my last line on (Virgin with BT line) ie almost stroppy with me!! for wanting to use another Co.
Then, after moving in = a 3 week to and fro with Virgin to explain why my service was not on; each blaming the other and assuming I didn`t understand their so called technical jargon.
It turned out that THEY didn`t understand their own jargon (ie, BT telephonists) and had been feeding me a line. So I was P`d off from the start with their intransigence and bare faced Bulls***ery
Sadly Virgin P`d me off later for other reasons.
Lets face it ...they are all overpriced poor services I was hoping to find a less overpriced less poor service.
I am getting frustated already (this is even before the 20 minute hanging on the line with the mind-numbing tunes...WHICH I PAY FOR THE PRIVILEDGE OF LISTENING TO!!)...
Tiscali seem cheap but the girl I asked on the phone said it would only cost me £30 in total to get the new line set up which after 5 times me asking her if she was sure she agreed this was not true and I would still have to pay for the engineers full whack). So customer service unreliable here too.Recommendations please
What is the Post Office like?
thanks again.0 -
