Bog standard white rice = 250g medium 14 mins (start in boiling water)
Pasta (depends on type) but 225g high 8 mins to twelve (start in boiling water)
let me know which type (twists, macaroni, spag, lasagna, tortellini, tagliatelli)
All from my book for my 800W jobbie.

Hello all,
Have no gas in the house (and no one can see till Friday). Don't even have hot water.
But more importantly, rather than spending loads on takeaways for the next few days, what can I cook in an fan assisted oven? Have no microwave so it has to be chopped and roasted, I'm guessing lots of roast potatoes, roast vegetables and pasta bakes.
Any other ideas please? I have a horrible viral infection and can't really do much.0 -
As you can't boil veggies, you could always use tinned ones for a few days - heat them through in a pyrex bowl in the oven together with your main course. Or have salads - I know it's not really the weather, but if your main meal is hot it won't be too bad. We often have pizza, oven chips and salad, even at this time of year.
p.s. Hope you get well soon.
p.p.s. Do you have a slow cooker?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

You can do casseroles in the oven too?
Or bake pork chops with a tin of cream of mushroom soup poured over?working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
you could make/buy pizza for one night, for another night bake chicken breast - wrap in foil with cream and mushrooms with say roast carrots and potatoes, you could do pasta bake or jacket potatoes (with butter and grated cheese), you could buy a pie (since you can't use the hob for the filling) and then do hm oven chips....
any good?0 -
Poor you! no gas, no hot water and feeling ill!
How about BBQ ribs and potato wedges, coat the ribs in sauce, put them in a foil lined pyrex dish and cook at 180 for about 40-45 mins (you may need to put some foil on top to stop them getting too brown). I make BBQ sauce by mixing together 1 grated onion, 1 tbsp honey, 4 tbsp ketchup, 4 tbsp brown sauce and 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce, give it a good mix and adjust seasoning to taste (you can add anything else you fancy such as garlic or tobasco).
My Mum does a lovely pototo dish, rub butter onto the inside of a casserole dish then layer pototoes and onion (making sure you start and end with potato, on each potato layer put dabs of butter and salt and pepper cover the dish in foil, again this is at 180 after about an hour (maybe more depending how deep the layers are) check the potato is cooked then if cooked through take the foil off and put back in the oven till the top is browned. Not very health but very tasty, so as long as you only have this occasionally it'll be ok.

mrs metal just reminded me - mum does a "rice onion and potato dish" - really easy, fairly healthy:-
grease casserole dish. Put layer of uncooked rice in the bottom. Then slice one large onion and layer it on top (add extra if you want to cover the rice). Then add a layer of sliced potato. Next pour over stock up to the level of the potato (assume you have a kettle?). Put lid on the dish and bake in the oven for about 45 minutes or until rice and potato is cooked and the stock is soaked in,

That sounds really nice, I'll give that a go myself this weekend0
