I seriously don't like NatWest - always got horrible service from them. But did go for the e-saver for my stoozing pot last week, thinking "maybe I should change the opinion, maybe they improved".
Yeah, right, they are exactly like from the Nationwide advert - first they hook you in with good rate and within days they will screw you!
  • Hallo, I too have had a natwest current account for hundreds of years (sic) and thought I'd opened their e-saver on the 20thNov. I received a letter with papers to sign on the 24th, immediately sent them off, but nothing else has arrived. Looked online, went through the process of registering online AGAIN and at least was given a customer number and told to wait for an activation code.
But when will I get into these flippin' accounts? Will more paperwork come eventually, dagnabit?

I don't think i received any paper work for mine, created it all online however i now have had my £1 in my account for over 6weeks now and no interest has been added! hmm i will call them by the end of the week if nothing happens. Fortunately i am only losing out on interest of £1 but it's annoying none the less!

My wife set one up online a few days ago. The account was activated the following day and she immediately transferred her ex-Icesave money into it. It does help that we are both long-standing customers.

Bit of a bummer about today's interest rate cut, but hardly surprising as all institutions are falling over themselves to cut savings rates. :( It's still higher than Nationwide's e-Saver, though.

I got my first bonused interest payment today - oddly enough it comes in two payments on the same day.

Shame they cut the rate - does it apply to existing eSaver accounts too?!

It does apply to existing accounts....time to ditch and switch!

I have a Northern Rock e saver paying 5.15% so I will dump my funds into another UK govt owned institution.....

The only problem is that every time one switches one loses more interest and how long will it be before NR reduces their rate on the esaver, the only way to be sure is to use Fixed rate accounts, that is if you can do without the cash for a while.

When I opened mine, I did it on the internet and it asked me whether I have internet banking for NatWest already. Which I do for joint account (my OH is very faithfull to them) so I put the details in and it prepared all the columns for me. I only agreed them. The account was on my internet banking the next day and paperwork arrived couple of days later. I didn't send anything off though as I already transfered money via internet before then.

Geoff - you are right, it's not that bad rate even after the cut, but what is annoying that they hook you in with great rate, which they than only keep for couple of weeks!!! Could have gone to Tesco, now I regret I didn't as they kept their 6% for longer. I think they still have it, don't they? it's just a pain to keep moving - I know it is necesary to get a good rate, but nearly weekly??? And that is what they count on - you move to them and won't be bothered to move away within days again!
  • After 10 weeks trying to open an E saver account I have finally given up.

I sent away the application, deposit and bank statement as requested, after 3 weeks they sent back the bank statement saying they wanted something that showed our full names not initials, I asked then if my council task return for this year would do, they said yes, they returned that (after another 3 weeks) saying not acceptable please send copy passport photos verified by a local nat west bank, this I did. Today after another 4 weeks I called asked what was going on they said they have not recieved the photos and my application for the account was closed, you do not want to know what I said to them. My £100K is going elsewhere.
