I've just started the process so I'll see how it goes. Strange that this account was never mentioned to us in the bank this morning when we asked for an account that would give us interest - we were directed to the advantage gold account:confused:

It's an internet only account so they wont promote in branch as such
  • Can someone who has opened this and already had a current account with NatWest advise me.

What I need to know is how many rounds of correspondence you went through to open it.

I am abroad a lot, only returning home every few months, so if it is just a case of doing the online stuff and then receiving a pack in the post then I can pick that up at Christmas but if I have to respond at Christmas and then wait for the pack then it will be March.

I had an e-saver first, then applied the second one, it came alive after (2 hours or 2 days I can't remember now). So I think you are ok...if you want one of this account. I presume that you have online banking with them.
  • I will be going into my 6th week trying to get my e saver up and running, still waiting, I did tell them to stuff it but they called saying things can only get better (isnt that Tony Blairs song).

I'm not sure opening an e-saver now is going to be worth the effort. The rate is going down about 1.5% next week. And as RBS/Nat West is now majority government-owned it's likely to pass on future base-rate cuts in full.
  • Applied for mine online a few days ago (my 2nd e-saver, the 1st is to get the 12*£100 SO = £50 bonus).
I received the confirmation letter 2 days later, along with a letter to return confirming my initial deposit of £1.
As it stated the account was fully open, I just binned this return letter.

I'm using mine as short-term storage for my icesave money - which arrives monday, but for some reason online banking has already allowed me to transfer from my current account into the e-saver(with bonus).

    I'm rich!(er than I was) :D

As of Monday, the e-savings rate, including the 2.10% bonus, will drop from 6% to 4.47% AER.

I just received a letter from them this morning, not so much informing me of the drop, but promoting the account (clearly they don't target their mailshots very well, I already have 2). And, the rate they're advertising is... 4.47%.

    Gutted.

    Grrrr
I'm so glad I left my 2 fixed rate deposits on Icesave/FSCS now. At least I get a decent rate until May/October next year....

As did TJJ, I had a NW current and eSaver deposit and opened the second eSaver on-line. More or less instant with just a confirming letter after a couple of days iirc.

Added flexibility for anyone who already has a Natwest current, no big deal otherwise.
  • Thanks people - I did open it and got an account # and sort code straightaway, so very good so far. It hasn't shown up online yet but it is Saturday.
