Reuters report Darling as saying the loan is to maximise the returns to UK creditors.

I'm sure they are working hard to resolve this but its frustrating not knowing where my money is... :( I hope the claims process is kicked off this Friday

A loan of £100 million isn't going to go far between 250000 plus savers.

The loan isn't for us, it's to keep Icesave going.

Why does a non-functioning website need £100m quid to keep going?

Still, if it's the honey that traps the (Icelandic) bear, let's not complain.

The lack of solid news/timetable is really, really concerning, however.

Where's official news of this 4bn loan we're meant to be giving to Them to give US our money back?!!!

Clearly the £100 million loan is some kind of "housekeeping" loan to keep Icesave going, but why it needs to be so large is not obvious or explained anywhere.

In terms of broadly relevant orders of magnitude, the only thing that seems to make any sense is the report in the IcelandReview that the UK is about to make a loan of Eur 3 billion to the Iceland Government so that they can repay Eur 4 billion of savings owed to UK private investors in respect of Icesave's activities. Presumably the remaining Eur 1 billion is already available from liquidation of Icesave assets, but I'm only guessing. Whether this Eur 4 billion payment covers all private saver deposits, or only up to the Eur 20k limit, is not clear. If this report is correct it's amazing that there's been no mention of this news in wider UK media or directly from HMG sources.
  • Very strange...especially as that Icelandic website is quoting what appears to be a Daily Newspaper in that country.

Maybe the two countries have agreed to announce it on a pre-determine date. Also the issue re: charities and councils could be holding up news re: depositors. At least, I hope that's the case.

    Hmmm....

Anyone else had some monthly interest? I've not had anything due on 10th on a fixed rate account - I wasn't expecting it but surprised to see some being paid.

My Icesave monthly interest was shown on the account last Thursday (9th) but it showed it going out to my NatWest account but of course it never arrived so it seems that amount is lost as the account shows the interest then the interest paid out (which it wasn't) but it was not credited back!

    That is perturbing . . . _pale_

Perhaps, as someone suggested earlier, Icesave's computer is mindlessly continuing its programmed tasks, 'unaware' of recent developments.

This is something worth watching when the day of reckoning comes. Make sure you DO get your interest, at least up to the day Icesave shut down, despite their computer claiming it has already been paid to your linked account.

Don't worry folks! Our details are heading for the UK on a CD in the post as we speak.

I hate to be picky, but I'd rather not have my money transferred to another organisation that I haven't made a contract with. Particularly since I have an account elsewhere lined up.

So that's an even longer wait then, while the info gets lost via the mail!
