Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
The Tesco internet saving account doesn't look too good to me ... they're not up-front about needing a card reader to transfer money and a lot of people have been caught out by this, who want to withdraw money quickly.

Sainsbury's online account has received awards and looks a decent bet (run by RBOS but Sainsurys have the banking licence), though you have to receive your interest yearly I believe.
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS

The Tesco saving account does require a card and reader to set up payees as does the Natwest e-saver both those accounts are run by RBS and currently pay 6.5%
Sainsburys is run by HBOS but only pays 5.5%

then again I'm saying I want to stick with UK establishments, I guess Egg is classed as American then?

You said you wanted UK savings establishments, then the very next post in reply you get Irish banks suggested!!! Ireland is not part of the UK, hasn't been for a good while now.

There are still some traditional building societies left, some offer good rates and some appear to be sound and solvent. Try

Actually icesave was only offering 6.3% AER on its instant access account.

    what's a card reader?
I just found out (by accidentally using the wrong one) that my card reader for Barclays cards works for my Nationwide account cards and vice-versa. I don't think they are bank independant. So you could use one from another account with someone else ;)
  • I really don't know what you're on about with these card readers.... from the link, they are debit card machines (like I used to use to charge customers at work)....? you need one of those to operate your savings account???
