With oil prices falling to a new 12 month low,,,, http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/10/markets/oil/?postversion=2008101011
Why oh why do we put up with the increase of fuel prices?
We are getting numb to the fact we are being screwed left right and center, almost expect it to go up and up!!
Gordon Brown has responded by telling the energy companies to act. I for one wont be holding my breath.
I think we should adopt the " French attitude" and start to demand from our government they start to protect us and our interests..

Simply because oil prices have fallen now, energy companies did have to cope with the massive increase of oil prices a number of months ago. Many companies managed to hold price increases off for a while, but oil did increase over 100% from the same time last year and are now starting to go down.
As energy companies buy their wholesale energy beforehand, you can't expect prices to fall immediately after a fall in oil prices, if they continue to fall and wholesale prices then fall - so will the energy for consumers. But oil has only fallen in price for the last couple of months, maybe even weeks, so prices won't be coming down certainly I would say for the rest of this year.Dannii_B

So you think the energy cos go out and buy their requirements every day like an old fashioned housewife then, If they did the prices to you would be up and down like a prostitutes bed springs. Most is bought some time in advance, so there will always be leads and lags in price changes compared to the spot market.0

No i dont think they change the prices every day. I never stated that .
What I'm saying is , prices have been consistently dropping for a while now.
Look at how consistent the prices have dropped since the peak.
Petrol prices have slowly followed the market price of oil. Dont tell me they dont bulk buy?
Funny we dont hear the energy companies complaining of the current financial crisis, no profit warnings being released from this lot. Quite the opposite in fact.
How any one can make excuses for this sorry lot is above me. I'M not saying they should not make a profit. Business is business. Its the way they complicate the market with unfair price structures that usually hits the elderly and needy which is unfair.0 -
I've heard energy companies are to increase prices in the new year. I wonder if still will, now fuel prices have fallen? This space is available to rent...0

Their shareholders will demand it!Seriously, the energy companies couldn't stop jabbering on about the price of oil when it was $147 a barrel, and constantly warning us of imminent, LARGE price rises. How silent they are now. If they were honest, ethical businesses they would now be saying there's a definite chance of LARGE decreases in gas prices in the near future. They won't say this, of course, because most of them are pushing their fixed/capped deals as if their life depended on it. Blame Thatcher....

"Why, oh Why" do we have to put up with these hysterical ill-informed posts about non-existent price rises ?
"Why oh why do we put up with the increase of fuel prices?" - which planet are you living on ? my local Esso station and Morrisons have cut their petrol prices 3 times in the last few weeks !
Energy prices in general will also start to fall - unless of course you have been spooked into signing up to one of these phoney capped deals !
" French attitude" - what French attitude ? There were silly stories in the UK press about the French Govt limiting energy price rises in France to 4% - this was hogwash ! The French government mentioned this, but never actually did anything - just what you criticise "Broon" for doing !
Please - criticise if you must - but at least criticise on a factual basis !0 -

Factual?? if you read the thread i mention petrol and diesel prices falling.. Gas and oil also fall into the "fuel" bracket.... FACT...
The French attitude i refer to is not one of the government but one of the people.
Protests and disruption which brings the country to a standstill and makes the government listen..( by disruption i refer to protest NOT riots)..
Also i was not critcising Brown.. quite the opposite in fact. He is putting pressure on the companies at the earliest opportunity.. I was saying they will not respond..
So please, if you must criticise my post .. do so.. but on a knowledgeable basis.. not just reading the first post in a thread.
BTW your line about hysterical, ill informed non-existent price rises? What planet are you on??
gas, oil, electric, petrol and diesel. You find me one person who has not been hit with (over) price rises???
thank you0 -

irrational??? surely you have a better argument than that???
surely you must work in the industry to be a sympathiser.
The origin of my thread is neither irrational nor in factual. I'm simply asking why the energy companies haven't issued a statement regarding falling prices, or acted upon them.
Would be great publicity and marketing. After all they are quick enough to speak when market prices rise.
As stated by other posters the silence is deafening.
Seen as you cant construct an argument or debate with your comments ( look at your latest post) .. dont bother to reply.
I'm not here to argue with morons so, will not be responding to your worthless responses..
I cant fathom people out who come on this forum praising these companies and saying they dont take the p£$S
