B & B.
They are still branded as B+B for the moment.
Most of these emails are sent looking for info on the big banks, might be worth moving your accounts to a local building society to avoid confusion.
A few months after the B+B identity is replaced by Abbey, you will prob want to anyway!I have a deep burning indifference0 -
Definitely spam - I usually forward them to the helpdesk of the bank in question, they like ot know they're out there. Egg have a special email set up for this very purpose!0

On top of everything else others have said, always be wary of emails that don't use your name. The 'Dear valued customer' bit is typical of a scam.0

Just checked out our B & B accounts and they seem OK.
Thanks again for all the advice.0 -
Unfortunately, these phishing emails are becoming more frequent and, I'm loath to use the word in this context, more 'sophisticated'.
I'm now getting an average of 5 a day in my inbox. They range from the traditional 'Can you help us transfer money from the account of a wealthy and now dead diplomat in Sawyoucomingland', to, 'you have just won several million on a lottery', to, 'your email has just been selected in a draw to win £X trillion', to, 'there have been several failed attempts to access your bank account ... please log on (to a spurious scammers website) and reinput your security details ... etc etc etc.
To the savvy they are fairly obvious scams, but they still represent a serious hazard for those who are not so 'on the ball'. I just wish more was being done to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Easily spam and the post is full of errors as most spams are:
1 - American spelling used.
2 - not email to you personally and no personal details included
3 - not signed off with by a named individual.
4 - no contact points
5 - wording is not what a UK bank would use.
I'm getting about 3 or 4 Abbey scam mails per day. Some little hacker has been busy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Katies Mum ->
Dont ever follow a link to a bank and then enter your details i.e. always manually type the URL (e.g. www.hsbc.co.uk) into a bowser, then check you get a padlock icon in the corner of your browser.
The only other way you could be scammed (omitted for obvious reasons) could be prevented with having software installed that would prevent vunrabilities like virus and ad/spam/rootkit prevention software.
They cant do much about these types of spam mails as they are spoofed emails.
I have used the below and they did the job...

I can't compete with that, but I've just received one with an authentic looking Abbey/Santander logo from "seurity.support1800@abbey.com" [sic] with a message header suggesting it has come from Russia.I'm getting about 3 or 4 Abbey scam mails per day. Some little hacker has been busy.
I've forwarded it to reports@banksafeonline.org.uk and phishing@abbey.com
I hope they are both genuine addresses

usually spelling and grammer are terrible as well. I got one from "costomer service" at Lloyds TSB a while ago!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
I get them too, and it's not just Abbey it's ALL and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM ! I do my banking on the net but I always enter the address in the toolbar, never click from emails, and advise you OP to do the same.
Actually nowadays it's more like do not click on any links from emails whatsoever if you don't want any problems really !0
