But offering a lending product? Is that really the way to go?
OK you clearly do not understand.

I once went £1.27 overdrawn in my RBS account. SHOCK! CHARGES ABOUND!! HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY? £30? £50? £100!??!?

    Nope.

Nothing, because I have a £250 interest free overdraft with them so I didn't pay them a penny. Did not cost me anything to arrange it and I won't use it. But I know that should I forget to check online banking one day or a cheque I forgot about goes out, I'm safe.

    Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

'I do my job, do you do yours?'

  • This is all well and good but i will give it 12 months and the days of free banking are over customers will be charged for all sorts, then again free banking is only available in the uk the rest of europe think it is all rather odd.
  • ps and they assume some one is paying for it some where along the line to stay free banking..

True, But he doesn't want a lending product, although he needs a dictionary and a new keyboard
  • Just a point this is a board for posting, to be honest i do not sit with the view of writing an exam piece its tap tap thats it and i dont go back over it wrong i know but such is life and i do not realy care as posting on here is not my bread and butter.
Also i do not want a lending product ,also it will not happen again, also i claimed it back via a customer on saturday so to be honest i am not worse off .
My point is and yes i know they cant look at every persons account but i have another at nat west with funds in to pay my tax bill they could have easily taken funds from that to avoid a charge , as said if i was in debt to natwest they WOULD access that account to take funds .
The banking system can be set up to do what i suggest but is not, for one reason the banks make money through the over the top charges.

I know I may end up getting shot at too... but I agree with the lone ranger... how can any back justify charging way over the odds for such small amounts of money? If the banks are willing to give anyone that ask's a small 'free' overdraft.. why dont they put in place a 'you dont need to ask but you have a £5 overdraft for small mistakes?

I would argue with anyone from the banks to justify huge charges on small amounts like this.

and for the record I have been charged many many times by my bank. and I have deserved it. and payed.
Life is like a box of chocolates........

I bank with NW, and opened this thinking they'd screwed someone over by making £4k disappear or something. Instead, it's just someone who made a mistake themselves, and despite knowing the rules with charges, are complaining.

Banks are businesses, and not a human right. It may just be a poxy 50p, but it wasn't YOUR 50p. If every single customer borrowed a mere 50p, then it would amount to a significant sum.

Perhaps the fact that the fines are so steep is because it's supposed to be a deterrant to make people organise their finances better, and become more responsible with their money?

Rather than send complaint letters to faceless people, why not just go into your local branch and speak to someone? They respond much better to personal visits.

If you really hate NW that much, then vote with your feet and change bank. The British are infamous for moaning, whinging and whining about things then never doing anything about it!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • mmmmmmmm read the post i see??
i wrote a letter and i went in to the branch.
They never paid the dd so i never borrowed there poxy money did i??.
If i wish to complain about there charges i will and also point out if they the bank are sure there charges are fair why are they refunding others who threaten legal action "oh yes its cheaper than defending mmm"£37.50 to return a dd is cheaper for the bank than paying the amount i was short mmm??.
A credit went in at 11pm on the thursday for 2k the bank said it should have been with them by 3.30 pm , cheques for £890 also cleared the following morning.
Now the bank had the credit the day the dd went out , this it was a few hours later is utter !!!!!!!!, there are funds in my other nat west account and as said if the bank wanted it if i were in debt they would access it.
They can easily set up the banking system to do this but they choose the have an over draft becouse they no why and the chargeing system in order to give free banking.
clearly we all know the banks are a business they are useing our tax money to support them unlike many of us small businesses.
