There seem to be lots of threads on here about 02 and they are complaints or dissastisfaction (the ones I've seen anyway).
Are they really bad(O2 I mean)? I am tempted by one of their deals but don't want to swap from Virgin if they are poo.....

No network is really bad - it's just that the people that are happy don't keep going on about it.

For network coverage overall, O2 are a bit better than T-mobile that Virgin uses, but local variations are always more significant - maybe you could ask friends about signal strength in areas you'll use it most.

For CS and other issues etc, they have had a couple of billing gremlins in the past, but these were all sorted out. I've not had any problems that I've been unhappy about.

I saw recently that O2 have 15 million subscribers. And when you consider they are the cheapest PAYG network, you can see why a lot of MSE-ers are on o2. With that many customers, of course some will be unhappy - however, I can tell you that far more are happy. I have been with o2 for years and found them great! :T

Also, have a look at this recent thread on Coverage and Care:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=119568&highlight=coverage+care

Their email support is very good, and free :j. Coverage is statistically the best of all the networks (although of course this varies from area to area so not everyone will get a perfect signal). Overall, I would recommend O2 to anyone.

    Their contract phones are unlocked.

They have decent tariffs with decent features including three month rollover, inclusive 0870, 0845, 0800, etc.

They have many cashback deals view mobile dealers.

i have been an o2/cellnet customer for 8 years and have never had any real problems. coverage is generally good, as is call quality. their tariffs are pretty decent value and like people have said above, the fact that the handsets are unlocked is a bonus if you want to sell them after your contract's up (or before, if you're not fussed about having the latest technology). their CS *is* expensive to call, but i have used the email facility a few times and while it's not instant they have sorted me out satisfatorily within a couple of days. i would not consider any other network!

Not if you phone them on Freephone 0800 005 005 from a Landline. Or
800 005 005 from your o2 handset. Calls to freephone are included in your inclusive minutes. ;)

Used Cellnet for 1 yr back in early 90's, then swapped to orange ( with the odd attempt at "3")

Found Orange c/s brill until this year, when is now more variable
    "3" c/s ... well thats another story

Went to 02 earlier this year mainly for 08 numbers ( later found out my contract was handled by CPW , but no problems)

Had 2 more contracts with o2 recently ... having trouble with both, now getting no replies to emails , and helpline sending me around everywhere , then of course get cut off !

  • Have found O2 Insure to be totally incompetent and a complete nightmare. Recently had a broken phone which they agreed to replace. Yet they constantly denied phone calls had taken place (which luckily had been made from an O2 shop where an incredibly helpful and patient advisor there had been talking to them on my behalf) They were so rude both to her and me that both I and the shop put in complaints. A week later still no phone and they denied all knowledge of the request again. I won't bore you with the protracted details, but - nightmare. Nearly just bought another phone - became that frustrating.
  • I've been with then 7 years and think they're spot on. no probs at all!

Been with them for many years and have found them excellent in terms of customer service, network quality and value for money :)
