And thank goodness for that Savvy Sue. I never was one for talking to myself:)

I find when people have been long term smokers and then stop, outwardly their gums rapidly become horrendous. The assumption for this is their hygiene may have worsened however IMO this is not the case. That damage and inflammation was always there but it was being masked by the effects of the smoking. Remove that mask and the reality of the situation is revealed.
Very interesting point there Welshdent:A And it just shows that even though this post has been going a long time now....there is always something new to learn coming up. Even some with photoe's and jingles!:D
ME? I have never smoked thank goodness....so whatever my particular Dental problems are...it wasn't caused by that.:)You've heard the budget speech now you've been told. It wasn't so much being tightfisted, as being unable to pay rent and eat as well, never mind for luxuries such as dental treatment. And I had given up smoking by then (obviously, as I couldn't even pay the rent)
Is 37 [cough] a young age?
Already use Sensodyne. And the TePe brushes (with loads of bleeding), as flossing was always painful.
Only thing left is that evil [STRIKE]paintstripper[/STRIKE] chlorhexidine mouthwash, which turns them brown
It was never a case of wouldn't pay, it was always couldn't pay. They knew what would happen and deliberately stood by.
Bah. Not looking forward to this afternoon.
Anyway, just thought I'd add in my twopennorth, as it seemed to be taken up with discussing the for and againsts, rather than the consequences of refusing treatment.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Good luck to you today friend. Please report back:).
Regarding trying to save money....I have to warn you that there are one or two who visit this Forum who won't show any sympathy with that attitude.
Why they come to a Money Saving Forum..I do not know?;)..

P.S. I bet you have never been visited by the Tooth Fairy M8!?
With all due respect of course, FOUR visits to the Hygienist a Year? Oh! yes? My ***e!
I see the hygienist every three months or so. It costs me £10 and I'd rather pay that for some preventative treatment rather than have to shell out hundreds in the one go for reconstructive treatment.
And no, I don't have any fillingsboozercruiser wrote: »Regarding trying to save money....I have to warn you that there are one or two who visit this Forum who won't show any sympathy with that attitude.

There's a difference between money saving and trying to get the cheapest price possible no matter what the cost. There is also a difference between short-term savings and long-term gain. When it comes to health matters there is another dimension added. Look at the number of people who search out the cheapest possible dental treatment abroad and don't get the results they wanted.0 -

Yes 37 is young!
The best money saving tip is take your tepe brushes and toothbrush with you this afternoon, as very few people use them properly without being shown by a dentist or hygienist. They rarely push the tepes onto the gum enough as the gum is tender or bleeds.Ask the dentist/hygienist to check your technique.
Chlorhexidine is for short term use only so shouldn't stain.0 -
"With all due respect of course, FOUR visits to the Hygienist a Year? Oh! yes? My ***e!"
BC don't go giving people clinical advice.
The One Who goes to the hygienist four times a year. Presumably they have been advised to. Read Jo Jo The tight fisted posts about the consequences of untreated gum disease.
I have patients who are in the middle of treatment for "gum problems" who come every two weeks then once they are stabilised will be on four visits a year for life.
For the last 20 odd years that is how myself and my very respected and professional colleagues the hygienists have treated our patients. Many ,many people have to follow this regime.
Apart from anything else The One Who might have a new heart valve, they might be on immunosuppresive drugs, they may have had radiotherapy or have been on IV bisphosphonates and the consequences of not keeping their oral hygiene excellent could be fatal. You don't know and you don't know what the consequences of following your "moneysaving" advice might be. Please think before you post.0 -

I'm guessing this should say "four visits a YEAR for life".
No point in adding fuel to a certain poster's fire!0 -
Now Appollonia how else are we going to fund our jetset lifestyle?
Of course you're right and thank you, a highly trained hygienist ,for your contributions.0 -
