well, they've now told me the parts place closed at dinnertime (without my part being picked up!) and they cannot get out until Monday.
I am now demanding they put us up in a hotel so we can have a warm room and we can all have a shower/bath. Let's see what they say to that!
PS They have offered us to drop off some heaters, why did they not offer us this 8 days ago?!0 -

Never see the Council's URGENCY to rush:rolleyes:

while your rights maybe the same you will find you have more channels to complain and get action with a council or HA than with a private Landlord who you may have to take legal action against. Just read some of these boards on the problems people have with their private landlords.
Well if it's on google it must be true:rolleyes: . As an ex council tenant I can assure you that the council never painted the inside of our house once in the 17 years I lived there and in the previous 8 years my parents lived in council accommodation. OP has already stated she also does her own decorating. What the council should do is prepare a house for rent after a tenant vacates. In reality they offer the tenants a week or more, depending on the condition, free rent for them to decorate internally. Councils paint and maintain the outside of properties.
And it's this attitude which has contributed to the decline in council estates. Once well maintained estates are now blighted by rubbish dumped in front gardens, overgrown lawns & hedges etc.
Not rubbish at all and I don't appreciate being called a liar.
Do something about it. For many it helps them get a better career and it enables them to help their children with their education. It also sets a good example to children in that it's never too late to learn. Without these skills I would be a in lower paid job.
My facts are based on spending almost half my life living on a council estate. Yours are based on google!
Yes I'm a home owner and have been for 22 years. For the last 14 years I've paid a fee for CH cover. Not a small insurance fee, £17 per month - over £200 per year). Part and parcel of home ownership but I have other benefits of being a homeowner.
The only one who seems to be having a go here and being personal and calling people liars is you.
and if you most your gripe on a public forum then you are going to getting different points of view. Sometimes these alternate points of view make you rethink your position. This is good as we can all get blinkered in our views, especially when we are peed off.
You sound like you are gloating at other's misfortune, why would anyone rejoice in someone elses misery.
Homeownership is the only alternative for many as social housing is hard to come by and private renting is expensive.
As a homeowner who has been through good and bad times but will thankfully be mortgage free in just over 12 months I feel for people facing repossession etc. Buying a house is a risk and for the majority it pays off eventually. For those it doesn't they have my sympathy not "I told you so".
How can someone be an idel blighter if they were working and were made redundant. They worked, they paid taxes and now they have to fall back on the benefit system they have paid into for years. What is wrong with that? It's not their fault the company ceased trading or their own business failed. We are now in a major recession and many small traders will not ride it out. They do not deserve to be called idle blighters.
What a load of old tripe dont want to get in an argument how much i earn but spelling does not hold me back, you have either got the ability to make money or not and im no employee, check your council house history, the dreg estates were always dreg estates, and the council use to paint inside the properties .
I lived in a council house for 3 years put my name on a list and asked my local councillor he got it me in the same village i live in now, repairs were the councils problem not mine as it was not my property i rented it and gave it up when i saw a house in the village i wanted to buy.
I bought my cottage and owned the property for 12 years sold it when i got in to debt after being made redundent twice in six months whinged about it i was entitled to whinge they made me redundent , so sold up and over a few years cleared debts and rented the house im in now i only decorate as its not my property i maintain the garden and orchard etc becouse i want it to look nice , last year i bought a property also in the village and rent it out and and i am liable for all repairs and i pay insurances and dont whinge oooh cost me a few 100 quid its mine so i pay for it .again some whingers in the village are agrieved i rent one in the village and own one in the village same people who whinged wheni got one of the councill houses in the village they didnt give a toss who was on a waiting list i jumped they just didnt like me getting it well again tough its called having conections.
It sounds to me like you are one of these whingers who moan about what every one else gets just becouse you dont ie you want it but know one else can have it.
People on benefits, well when you are a tax payer you are paying peoples benefits your not paying in to any type of pot and when you lose your job you rely on a tax payer to pay your benefits nothing what so ever to do with how much you have paid in to anything.
Im a small trader and im doing great thanks the good will survive.
i do not gloat at other peoples mis fotune life gives you tough breaks ,tough my life isnt hard use to be, its what you make it , this lady moaned about her heating so she should she pays rent for the property and it not hers and she wants it mended asap , you think becouse you own yours and pay a little insurance you can have a pop at her ie she gets it cheap any way attitude sorry met your type before rather unpleasant charater who thinks there rather clever when far from it is the case.
you say that private tennents have to take court action to get things done as an excuse why she should be gratefull for getting it done in a few days.
I remember some one having a go at me for getting tax credits when i was earning 42k a year she was just like you , i got them becouse i was allowed them as i have two children in the last 12 months i have stopped recieving the tax credits becouse i have gone over the permitted amount ie how much i earn, the lady whinging at me had no children, that was the only reason she didnt want me to have the tax credit becouse she couldnt, i think you are both from the same mould.0 -

heaters eat your electricity. we had boiler failure in our last place and they gave us an electric heater and it ate £20 worth of leccy in about 3 days [middle of a very cold winter]There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Blankets. Use them. Dress the kids in jumpers for bed if you have to. It's simple warmth economy.
Before central heating this was done all the time! Granted we shouldn't expect to have to do it, but we should be prepared if we need to. This time, it's not your fault -- but what about next time, maybe there will be a fuel shortage and we'll have to heat ourselves?
Unlikely you might say, but I reckon it isn't stupid to make sure the kids always have at least one spare jumper and a pair of warm comfortable trousers 'just in case'.
I lived in a practically derelict, rented property for three years because there were no other properties free in the area! I had two kids, was really young myself, but managed to make sure my kids and me/us were warm in bed at night.
You should be turning this to your advantage, not sitting ranting at these annoyingly inconsiderate companies for not fulfilling your requests. Don't get me wrong - I AGREE that they SHOULD ensure you have heating and hot water in this day and age. I'm merely suggesting that you ensure that your family is provided for. That means emergency heating fallbacks etc. Nothing is infallible and things like heating although taken for granted should always be backed up with extra blankets in storage etc. The house is only as cold as you make it, and there are ALWAYS extra things you can do.
Yep, that was your 'rant' on the heating people, but this is mine on how people these days are too lazy to provide for emergencies. I'm 29 by the way, and I'll never let my kids be caught short, cold, or hungry because I've lived the cold life myself and had to provide for them in times past.No chocolate, cosmetics or clothes to be bought before xmas day 14! ~ NPower eBay target £541.670 -
lol, i pay £100 per month and £13 for my boiler plan. I expect a decent service and not a company that tells me different things each day to cover their backsides.
Also, we are doing things to keep warm. Do you think we are all sat in shorts and t shirt going "oh this is soooo cold!" We are wrapped up, we have a quilt for us all to get under on the sofa, we are sleeping 4 in a bed as during the night as it is so cold you can see your breath!
I'm not looking for solutions on how to keep warm, i am informing people of my situation with a blue chip company who cannot get the basics right and i am asking if others think this is acceptable. So thanks for your input, but i think the cold has effected your brain, as you have completely missed the point of my post. You should be turning this to your advantage
what on earth does this mean?0 -
Sod the blankets. Bring a tent and pitch in my back garden.:D We seem to be having an indian summer here. OH mowing the lawns as I type, no heating been on for a few days. Might go to the beach later and for an ice-cream.:T
Really weird considering it's October, not that I'm complaining.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Go for compo, last year on holiday our flight was delayed for 2 days due to weather at jfk , loads of brits were asking for hotels, food vouchers etc etc infact i was a little embarrassed at how much they were asking for , i was just glad the plane didnt take off in a blizzard, checked in at holiday inn and spent 48 hours shopping again while every one else was filling forms for compo , as in the usa the brits are now becomeing masters at it and its surprising what back grounds they come from .0

Where do you live that it's so cold? i live in Scotland and before you all start shouting, I'm just saying it's generally colder up here. It isn't that cold. Stick another jumper on.0
