Being in a council house has everything to do with her getting boiler repaired. If she was a homeowner then she would have to fork out about about £4 per week for CH cover or else chance getting hold of a Corgi registered plumber in a timely manner and be at the mercy of their charges. My sister rents her house from HA and pays £65 week for a 3 bed semi in a decent area. This isn't bad value for including no house maintenance, one of the reasons she has chosen to rent.
so could you its your choice.

My parents installed CH because when I was a child council houses were basic with no heating just draughty metal windows and 1 coal fire. The private rental market for houses is much more expensive in this area, typically a house now would cost over £100 per week to rent, plus council tax. Therefore the choice was a committment to more rent per week (based on sister's rent in today's money an extra £140 per month) or to pay to install heating themselves. Now councils have to maintain homes to a higher standard.
yes every landlord council/association/private has to do that its called duty and care to tennent ie some one paying a rental charge to them.

. Her gripe was they didn't come out the same evening.
she is allowed to moan you would if your plumber didnt come out on command .

I really don't see why you have to be so rude. Would you like it if I said you need to start reading any newspaper judging by your appalling spelling and how I needed to re-read your post a few times to work out what you were trying to say? ; Learn from newspapers ???????ok.

As I've declared myself an ex council house tenant I don't see how you've drawn the conclusion that I think people get council houses for free.
Thats a bit like saying ive got a coloured friend to avoid being called a raciest

My post merely pointed out the benefits of renting and in fact renting from a Govt. body as they are more regulated NO MORE THAN PRIVATE, and you generally get better, more regulated service when it comes to maintenance NO MORE THAN PRIVATE.

Now council tenants do no maintenance NEVER HAVE DONE INFACT IVE JUST LEARNED THROUGH GOOGLE THEY NEVER USE TOO THE COUNCIL USE TO PAINT THE INSIDES OF THERE PROPERTY.
(council hides behind H&S and tenants don't see why they should pay to maintain someone else's property) ABSOLUTE RUBBISH WHY SHOULD SOME ONE RENTING PAY TO MAINTAIN ANYTHING OTHER THAN DECOR??. When I grew up on a council estate people maintained their own homes, painted their own doors/windows etc ABSOLUTE RUBBISH.

I admit to being a poor speller grammer etc also very poor computor skills and do not know how to use the spell check how ever it does not put money in my pocket so im not to bothered realy.
I find some of your facts a very odd , any rented property it is down to the land lord council/association/private there all the same rented,
now i assume you own your property and pay a small insurance fee should your boiler go wrong so you should its your property its nobody elses assuming its paid for.

It never fails to amuse me how some people get a little kick at having a go at some one who moans about the level of service they are getting this lady pays rent if she wishes to moan its up to her if you wish to buy its up to you there are currently many people getting there homes taken of them or who are in arrears well thats there fault in it should not have got themselves in to debt ?? i bet the idle blighters who have lost there are jobs claiming thousands in benefits.
  • ado you have any nearby family, or freindly (and trusted!) neighbours who may help, at least wih giving the kids a bath/shower..

get onto council 1st thing in the morning - take names etc, and make it clear young kids, disabled, etc.

mean time, heat water in a kettle, and wash the 'essientials' in the bathroom sink!

the odd coughing fit may be overdoing it..

    yes and the point is:confused:

erm we do do our own decoratig thanks.

aparently they tried calling me yesterday [i never got any calls] to say they couldnt get an engineer out last night.

however one turned up today and thankfully it was a loss of pressure and he twiddled a knob and all is happy.

NO MORE THAN PRIVATE,......NO MORE THAN PRIVATE.
while your rights maybe the same you will find you have more channels to complain and get action with a council or HA than with a private Landlord who you may have to take legal action against. Just read some of these boards on the problems people have with their private landlords.
NEVER HAVE DONE INFACT IVE JUST LEARNED THROUGH GOOGLE THEY NEVER USE TOO THE COUNCIL USE TO PAINT THE INSIDES OF THERE PROPERTY.
Well if it's on google it must be true:rolleyes: . As an ex council tenant I can assure you that the council never painted the inside of our house once in the 17 years I lived there and in the previous 8 years my parents lived in council accommodation. OP has already stated she also does her own decorating. What the council should do is prepare a house for rent after a tenant vacates. In reality they offer the tenants a week or more, depending on the condition, free rent for them to decorate internally. Councils paint and maintain the outside of properties.
ABSOLUTE RUBBISH WHY SHOULD SOME ONE RENTING PAY TO MAINTAIN ANYTHING OTHER THAN DECOR??.
And it's this attitude which has contributed to the decline in council estates. Once well maintained estates are now blighted by rubbish dumped in front gardens, overgrown lawns & hedges etc.
When I grew up on a council estate people maintained their own homes, painted their own doors/windows etc ABSOLUTE RUBBISH.
Not rubbish at all and I don't appreciate being called a liar.
I admit to being a poor speller grammer etc also very poor computor skills and do not know how to use the spell check how ever it does not put money in my pocket so im not to bothered realy.
Do something about it. For many it helps them get a better career and it enables them to help their children with their education. It also sets a good example to children in that it's never too late to learn. Without these skills I would be a in lower paid job.
I find some of your facts a very odd , any rented property it is down to the land lord council/association/private there all the same rented,
My facts are based on spending almost half my life living on a council estate. Yours are based on google!
now i assume you own your property and pay a small insurance fee should your boiler go wrong so you should its your property its nobody elses assuming its paid for.
Yes I'm a home owner and have been for 22 years. For the last 14 years I've paid a fee for CH cover. Not a small insurance fee, £17 per month - over £200 per year). Part and parcel of home ownership but I have other benefits of being a homeowner.
It never fails to amuse me how some people get a little kick at having a go at some one
The only one who seems to be having a go here and being personal and calling people liars is you.
who moans about the level of service they are getting this lady pays rent if she wishes to moan its up to her
and if you most your gripe on a public forum then you are going to getting different points of view. Sometimes these alternate points of view make you rethink your position. This is good as we can all get blinkered in our views, especially when we are peed off.
if you wish to buy its up to you there are currently many people getting there homes taken of them or who are in arrears well thats there fault in it should not have got themselves in to debt ??
You sound like you are gloating at other's misfortune, why would anyone rejoice in someone elses misery:confused: .

Homeownership is the only alternative for many as social housing is hard to come by and private renting is expensive.

As a homeowner who has been through good and bad times but will thankfully be mortgage free in just over 12 months I feel for people facing repossession etc. Buying a house is a risk and for the majority it pays off eventually. For those it doesn't they have my sympathy not "I told you so".
i bet the idle blighters who have lost there are jobs claiming thousands in benefits.
How can someone be an idel blighter if they were working and were made redundant:confused: . They worked, they paid taxes and now they have to fall back on the benefit system they have paid into for years. What is wrong with that? It's not their fault the company ceased trading or their own business failed. We are now in a major recession and many small traders will not ride it out. They do not deserve to be called idle blighters.

I am no Oik and do not think that council tenants should receive a lessor service because they rent. Read posts more carefully before you jump to conclusions.

I do not feel superior and I have not forgotten my roots as my childhood, and the area I grew up in, has influenced me and made me the adult that I am today. "Forgetting your roots" is a bandied about phrase used by those who feel inferior for their own reasons.

after badgering EON all day yesterday was given an appointment for a part fitting for today (saturday, 10am - 12pm). 1pm comes, no engineer, so i call EON, only to be told they can't get hold of the engineer, so he is probably on his way, give them a call back at2pm if he still hasn't shown.

2:10pm, no sign, so i call them back and tell me that my appointment was not for today, but for Monday...........at that point i let rip.

Am currently on hold speaking with a manager trying to sort out this mess.
