Comments

  • Hope this does not confuse but their is 2 freesat services at the moment

    1. Freesat from Sky which is £75 one off payment or Free if you cancel your subs and use you old Sky equipment and viewing card . If you don't have a viewing card (got a second hand Sky box) then its £20 for a viewing card.

    2. FreeSat from the BBC/ITV which is Freeview and at present a few more channels via satellite. You buy the Freesat reciever from argos/currys or comets for around £50 plus instalation cost, this is Free if you have an old Sky dish installed. The good thing about this Freesat is if you get FreesatHD reciever around £149 you can get BBC and ITV HD channels for free

The viewing cards will automatically revert to freview & not freesat.
Freesat is another part of sky where for a one off payment of £20 they will send you a viewing card that enables you to watch a 100 freesat channels aswell as your freeview channels.

Utter tosh, the FreesatfromSky Card ( not freeview ) will only give access to Ch5's, Ch4 and Sky3, over and above the normal free channels, as will the existing subscription cards, once Sky is cancelled.

Freeview is not available on Sky, that is via an aerial only.

    As above.

Freeview is a group of free channels via the aerial.

Freesat are free channels over satellite.

There are currently around 200 channels that are free on satellite and require any digital satellite box and no card.

There are a few - Five, Fiver, Five US and Sky Three that require a Sky box and a viewing card - this can either be a £20 Freesat card or an old subscription card.

There is no need to get a £20 card as your old viewing card will do.

Sadly for some reason jackthenipper often gives out incorrect information ion Sky matters.

Will it revert to the Freesat instantly? My ds will kill me if he has to do without his music channels. He says it sounds too good to be true. We tend to be on the unlucky side! Well I shall take the plunge and ring them when I get a moment.

  • Hi,

We did exactly what you are planning to do - cancelled sky but continued with the equipment, and the day it cancelled we just lost the paid for channels, all the others worked fine (my husband was gutted at losing Kerrang but makes do with Scuzz :D).

We put the channels we could/wanted to watch on our favorites, as you still see the other channels on the menu. This worked fine for us - only takes 50 but that's more than enough mind numbing watching for 2 people :rotfl:.

You need to give 30 days notice. So it will revert to Freesat after the 30 days notice.

If you want to see which channels are broadcast 'Free To Air' AKA 'In The Clear' take out your viewing card and flick through the channels.

Virtually all of the Free channels do not require a viewing card, Sky are also not allowed by EU requirements to block channels that are transmitted in the clear - freely available.

Don't know why you think it sounds too good to be true, when it is nothing special and nothing to do with Sky that there are around 200 channels on satellite that broadcast Free To Air.

Yes, though I thought the OP had already looked.

My point was they could see for themselves straight away that they could get the FTA channels.
