Ditching Sky subscription/Freesat

Hi
We have a Sky dish + 2 of the basic boxes, one in front room, and one in bedroom.
Would it be possible to ditch the monthly subscription (currently £32.00 pm) and then buy two of the viewing cards @£20 each? Would we need two of them? I dont have sky phone or broadband.
Sorry if this is a daft question, but would rather ask on here and know the right answer prior to ringing Sky as I can't see them wanting to lose their monthly direct debit.
Many thanks.

As far as i'm aware the cards in each box will revert to "freeview" once you cancel the account with sky so I doubt the need to buy new onesWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

That was quick. Thanks Phil.
So now we have the equipment, is it ours as we have it over the year? should have asked on my original question, thanks.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

The eqiupment belongs to you, if you call up sky freesat then they will send out the viewing cards that you require for £20 each. Just put them in & view. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0 -

Shouldn`t the viewing cards he's already got revert to 'Sky Freesat' once he cancels?Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

well....mine did
well...i've been getting (or my parents now are) all the freesat channels with an old cancelled sky card without any problemsWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
The viewing cards will automatically revert to freview & not freesat.
Freesat is another part of sky where for a one off payment of £20 they will send you a viewing card that enables you to watch a 100 freesat channels aswell as your freeview channels. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0 -
Cheers guys for all that information. Oh and he is a she and is most grateful. Will be giving Sky a ring and cancel the subscription and ask for two of the cards. Save a bit of dosh anyway!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

As above, you don't need to buy another 2 cards. Your existing cards will work just fine once you cancel your subs.
You can actually use the boxes without any cards at all but you won't get Ch4 or Ch5.Dave. :wave:0 -
Look, just to clarify and reiterate what has been already said....
It would be a complete waste of money to buy new "Freesat from Sky" viewing cards. They are identical to the cards you already have.
Once you cancel your subscription, your existing viewing cards will become "Freesat from Sky" viewing cards, in that they will allow you to view all free to air channels.
Trust me, just ignore anyone who tells you to buy new viewing cards.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
as above do not be advised by sky to buy new cards, they will try to sell them you0
