I've just accessed my ICICI account with no problem, I'm sure the site is just experiencing high volume panicking. My money's staying there.

Yes I got a ref number but they did not say about an e-mail.

My link account is cahoot but I might send it on to HSBC - not that they will be any safer but the branch is in my town. Then it goes into a German account that i am opening soon as I have just taken an apartment there. I think their banks are safer well I hope so.

The site is now fine. I've just logged onto my account... ;)
    ................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................
  • Regarding MrLew's comment that Martin would say something if ICICI were in trouble. He never did in the case of Icesave and one of the reasons taken from his blog was as followed:

'It’s also worth mentioning the scale of this site is also an issue. As I wrote in the original Icesave blog, the weekly email is my main communication mode to tell people news. If I write “get your money out” of any bank in there, as it goes to 2.5m that has a potential to cause a run on the bank, if I do that, I genuinely would be to blame.'

So if Martin and the MSE team thinks that a bank is in genuine trouble they will not tell us. They will keep the information to themselves and their friends and family. We will be the last to know.

He can't really win, if he says get out its in trouble, then everyone pulls their cash out, it drops and we get a kaupthing edge situation where everyone has pulled cash out but we can't get it ... If he doesn't then he gets blamed too!

The fact is no one really knows what state a bank is in apart from the people who work there and the FSA when they go and check ... eg KE !!
  • Problem is, when the IceSave people said on Moneybox that everything was safe, I belived them and thought everyone was scaremongering, so left my £17k there - now I'm gonna have to wait months to get it back.

Same with ICICI, I'm minded to leave my money in it (not least because half of it is in a fixed rate till mid November), and I'm not the type to follow the (possibly ill-informed) crowd - BUT, I don't want to be burned twice.

At least the website is back.
