Sunday 4th Dec
I've just come back from Hove Tesco and the they took £5.10 worth of "Somerfield" vouchers!
Didn't buy any of the products and the checkout was right in front of the supervisor's desk!
The current December "Somerfield" Magazine has £22.50 worth of vouchers and is FREE from any store!
Remember, Once you’ve seen one shopping centre you’ve seen a mall!
If you look at the Somerfield coupons it states that the store should return it it to some central Somerfield office for redemption. If Tesco's accepted these would they really return it to Somerfield for redemption, and if they did, would Somerfields redeem them for it?. I cant see it happening, unless the stores have an agreement to pay each other if each accepts the other coupons.
I dont want to hand these over if my local store cant redeem the money back from them.
What do you think?0 -
Many Asda stores accept Tesco and Sainsburys coupons and Tescos take Sainsburys coupons, but this is because they are their competitors, and their want you to shop with them instead of with the supermarket that issued the voucher. Some stores will also occasionally accept coupons from other stores as well from time to time if you are lucky.
They don't have any agreement with the other store to accept them, and they get nothing back, but your total spend is easily worth a few £s loss in coupons to them, so don't feel bad. If they are accepted at the checkout, it is because Head Office have told their staff to accept them; you are not conning or deceiving anybody. I don't know why so many people feel guilty about this. They are businesses, and their overall aim is profit. If it wasn't worth their while, they wouldn't do it.A penny saved is a penny gained0 -

Thanks Marigold.
I agree with your comments. I'm not overly worried, I just dont wish to be banned from my local supermarket like some other members from here have been. I couldnt bear that!.0 -
Hi, I have just come back from Tesco and they took £18 of Sainsburys money off vouchers from the magazine and also the £5 off clubcard voucher. I feel really great now I spent £30 on a £53 shop!!!!0

I work as a supervisor/till gimp in sainsburys. Personally I'm not bothered whether you buy the product or not, as Sainsburys can still reclaim the dosh regardless. I'd be a bit tight about putting vouchers through if they were clearly branded with another supermarket. We wouldn't be able to use those.
Best bet would be to goto someone young but experienced (unexperienced/newstarters will be calling the supervisor for everything that makes them think), as like me, so long as they get paid they don't really care.0 -

Marigold123 wrote:Not 100% sure, but I thought it was £12 worth of vouchers - 1 x £5, a few £1 and the rest 50p.
Picked mine up a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure it was the December one. The vouchers were for Christmas booze.
Dead right! They are for £12.50!
Got excited as I picked two mags up! £25 will be ging to Tesco this wek!COMPERKING

Hear Hear! Tesco's is not a charity and sooner people accept that the better! All they want is your hard earned cash by fair means or foul!COMPERKING

And I wouldnt question the supervisor, if next time they do refuse to accept your coupons. The supervisor will take one look at that receipt you have and note down the Checkout Assistant who took your vouchers, who will also get a good talking to I suspect or worse. The very least is, that assistant would never accept you coupons again. So think before you act
Your agument does not add up because if the staff were told not to take Somerfield vouchers the till (Computer) would reject them! Each one was scanned (barcode) and all went through. Anyway why would you be concerned about a supervisor? You are the most important person in the store, the customer!COMPERKING
