avg update failed

I have AVG and its showing an exclamation mark and not working. (AOL user.)
It says it needs updating and when I click to update it seems to freeze and shows a message
"connection with the update server has failed..........etc"
I have internet access and it seems to be the update thats at fault. Im not at all techie and i have looked at the update on the AVG website and the page does not load.
Don't want to stay unprotected from virus's so should I download another freebie (recommend one please that's easy to operate if you could ?)
or is there is fix to this??

Same thing happened to me with AVG so I removed it and re-downloaded it and it works great.

I just updated OK.

I had an error pop up yesterday to say that it couldn't contact the server, but seems fine now.

I uninstalled it and installed it again but still the same

Mine would not update yesterday, if you right click on the AVG icon on the bottom right of your screen it will shoe 'Update now' press that and all should be well.

the icon is not there now, its gone grey with an exclamnation mark when I click on update now, nothing happens.

Start, Programs, AVG Free 8.0, AVG User Interface, Update.

The problem is that it starts to update then fails.

should I uninstall it and reinstall another anti virus?
