in Water bills
Today we received a letter from Anglian Water stating that they are increasing our monthly payment from £19 to £45  per month!!!
They state in the letter that "Your recent bill for water services charge shows an increased consumption compared to the previous six monthly account. Your payments have therefore been increased to £45"
There has been no increase in our water consumption in fact it should have gone down as a family member has recently moved out.
How do they work this out and how can I investigate this? I will be calling them on Monday, any idea on how I should approach this?
Please help....

They are automatically done by the computer so your consumption may have gone up to trigger the larger payments ?
What was your old bill and what is your new bill consumption wise ?
I would ring them 0800 91 91 55 instead of the 0845 number.0 -

They have not sent us a bill just a letter stating that they will increase our payments. Thanks for the freephone. I will call them tomorrow.MFWB

It sounds like they have read your meter and have realised they were under estimating. Take a reading now and look at your past few bills and compare readings.

Most likely to be with the main water stopcock in the pavement outside the front of your house. Lift the cover and have a look. It might, but is unlikely to be, inside the house near your stopcock in the kitchen or wherever the mains pipe comes in. Check for underground leaks by taking readings overnight or anytime you're not using water.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -

Wow that is a HUGE increase! Do you pay all year round or April - November (inc)? Are you on a water meter?
I would certainly be asking some strong questions of AW. I remember when the electricity company did this to me - they had been estimating our bills. When they finally read the meter I was stuck with a bill for £800  I did complain but still had to pay it. Took me about two years in total.
Good luck!0 -
i am not on a meter and my bill is about 35 a month, and I don't think thats excessive. Best check there's not a leak anywhere.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Yikes.. so they could be estimating ours and we could also be stuck with a huge bill:eek: this is worrying.
I just dont understand how our monthly payment can go from £19 per month to £45 that is more than double what we are paying.MFWB
