I didnt get an extra £10.

Must be because I work for a living rather than claim benefits for it.

You should be grateful that your working NASA, a lot of people would give there right arm to be in your position (myself included).

Historically, this has been paid along with state retirement pension since the early 1970s. I remember this, because my mother, who started getting her SRP when she retired on 3rd December 1972, was delighted to get it. 'That nice Mr Heath' as she called him, was responsible for it. At that time it was meant to be a Christmas bonus and believe it or not, it equalled another week's pension money. Because of inflation and the passage of time, £10 now won't buy you much, but at that time it would have done your Christmas shopping. Being cynical, and much more politically-savvy than I was then, and my mother was very innocent and not streetwise as we'd say now, I wonder if it was another of those 'vote-catching' measures as we've had in recent years. You know the ones I mean.

Well, I got a tax refund last week along with the WFP. After having paid off my credit card and now out of debt for the New Year, I've bought a new winter coat. DH likes me in a camel coat and this is a full-length one, not a jacket. I now have all the clothes I'm ever likely to need for the rest of my life. I didn't put it on the credit card - don't need to do that.

If that is the state pension, then that would be why.
  • I too was mystified by this display of largesse from HMG not recognising it at all. But I checked back in my bank accounts and discovered I got it last year too!! No wonder we had such a good Christmas last year :snow_laug
