Nationwide - it pays to complain

I along with thousands of others suffered because of the long delays in transferring ISA's to the Nationwide. Mine didn't go through until August. I made numerous phone calls but to no avail. I made a formal complaint, and the Nationwide offered me £25 as a goodwill gesture because of all the calls I made. I accepted their offer but heard nothing. Fired off a second letter in September and today I received an extremely apologetic letter from them and a bigger cheque for £75 for their poor customer service. The moral of the story is don't accept poor service and complain if you think you have been treated badly.

I got 125.00 from Nationwide in total.

Going rate from Nationwide in late 2007 was minimum 100.00.

I just complained to them because they cancelled my debit card just as I went on holiday to the states. I'd paid for something very recently without a problem, and then suddenly it stopped working. This left me abroad without access to the majority of my cash, and therefore could easily have ruined an entire holiday if my girlfriend and I hadn't borrowed her dad's US bank card. It's nice to know that the compensation for late ISAs is over the £100 level, as this has me a hell of a lot angrier thank I've been for slow transfer times!

Thanks for the info Stavros. Looks like my parents will need to fire off letters to them....only been waiting for a transfer to go through since June!

Did NW backdate the credit so that you didn't lose out on interest?

    Thanks

I just got called by an 0118 9682000 number saying it was a Nationwide Complaints team set-up to deal with all the ISA complaints.

They had all my letters etc so it must have been genuine etc and hopefully I will recieve compensation...fingers crossed it is over £50 etc.

My hubby had his account fraudulently accessed due to Barclays sending his new card and pin to our old house after we changed address (10 months on)
    Got £100 for that.
I'm currently pursuing another complaint with them because I put two amounts of £500 each into my account and into savings account. They put both sums into my current account, and the savings got spent as I thought I was doing extremely well with my accounts that month!
Launched big complaint, and lady on phone said I stand to get compo!
Also just launched another complaint as they still send me stuff in my maiden name, when I married 18 months ago!
What does work, is, in your complaint letter, list all the accounts with you (eg, between my husband and I, we have three current accounts, two ISA's, a savings account, a mortgage, home and contents insurance) and if you don't deal with my complaint to my satisfaction, I will be forced to move these accounts elsewhere...
    Trust me, it works!
