Martin Lewis apologies thread

I just wanted to say that I support martin and I am horrified by the way he has been slated by posters on this board and in the media. people should take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming Martin, he didn't hold a gun to your head and march you to the nearest computer to log onto an icesave account for goodness sake! This website contains clearly displayed disclaimers if people care to read them, its so easy to blame other people.
I am right behind Martin and am so thankful for this website and all the advice on it.

And you have only just registered here this month, give us a break.
So, Martin should be thanking Alistair Darling from the bottom of his heart,
And you are living in cloud cuckoo Land. Martins advice has always been to stay within the compensations levels. Thanking Alistair Darling, Jesus, I have heard some ridiculous statements on this forum, and boy are you close to being awarded Pole position

This is getting a little repetitive now. There are now a number of posts from martin on other threads explaining this. Since April, every mention of Icesave has included a bolded warning to read the Safe Savings article, which detailed the differences in protection between it and other, non-passport scheme banks.
We are extremely happy, like everyone else is, that the Treasury have stepped in to cover the Icelandic government's commitments, plus guarantee cash above and beyone the £50k. it is fantastic news.Former MSE team member0 -
How so MSE Dan?<snip>the Treasury have stepped in to cover the Icelandic government's commitments, plus guarantee cash above and beyone the £50k. it is fantastic news.
I am sure the posters over on the DFW boards (folk who literally have nothing to lose) are over the moon at the prospect of their take home pay shrinking to help out people immeasurably richer than themselves, who either by ignorance or calculated risk invested sums beyond the known guarantees.
IMHO there are far too many who wish to point the blame elsewhere and/or think it is a right and that innocent bystanders should bail them out when it ends in tears, and very few who stand up proud and say yep my fault, I gambled and lost[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

Hiya,
Yes I think you have a fair point.
I should clarify that I intended to mean fantastic news for Icesave savers. A lot of people on these forums and beyond have had an extremely fearful few days and I'm sure you can understand we are glad that these savings have now not been lost

The people who did not see the Icesave debacle coming, and who have tried to blame Martin or Gordon Brown, or anyone else innocent, are frankly either too dense to have heeded the clear warnings from the FSA earlier in the year, or too greedy to give up the unsustainably high interest rates.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

As an exercise in hindsight - try entering "scaremonger" in the search box for this forum.
Veeeerrry interesting!!

Thanks for starting this thread. I hope those who quite irrationally attacked Martin yesterday will take time to reflect on their actions and as you suggest apologies. I also hope in future they will take more responsibility for their own actions. We will then have a better society all round.Thought I would start a new thread in which those people who so utterly unbelievably accused/blamed Martin for the Icesave debacle can now offer their formal apologies.
Given this morning's statement from Alistair Darling that Icesave customers will have all (not just £50K, like savers with UK banks do) of their savings protected, it is now time for all those who made rush and irrational comments to come out and eat humblepie.
Come on everyone who made those posts, everyone can made a mistake, it shows character to admit it!0 -

The site is ad free, however there are affiliate links which have a monetary gain to MSE which enables Martin to run the forums at no charge to the users and donate large amounts of money to charity.
lol
So, the income is only to :
- run this board for free
- give to charity
Methinks you have left something out .. or you think he is batman or something weird.
The "free from ads" thing is clearly misleading as it implies no income generated .. only an idiot would argue otherwise.
Oddly, your reply also insinuates that this is not a profit making site for the owner but that is his Bruce Wayne Foundation for a Better World. Erm, hate to tell you this, but it is a profit-making site for the owner. Full stop.
Anyway, the bigger picture is Martin has dropped a bollock. He knows that and we know that.
What he didnt do is say it a must buy or anything. Just that it was the best buy and had small print about the guarrantee irregularity.
If anyone blindly followed advice because it came on this site from the site owner then you have received what could have been an expensive lesson for free.
Despite the title, there are no experts on this site. Its just a glorified forum to save a few quid on odd things. Serious financial advice? Give me a break!
I agree with those who say to appreciate the forum for what it is .. and all the groupie, fawning stuff about it is as emabarrassing and inappropriate as slagging it like it was a government service.
Its just what it is .. no more/no less.0
