To blame Martin is crazy, to blame another user such as isofa (or me or the tens edwinac has accused over the past few days) is nothing short of insanity.

    edwinac is a troll.

Fair enough. But I was a little surprised and disappointed that he dishonestly pretended on Ch 4 news that he had been warning people all along when the truth was quite the opposite.

The reality is that while other sites and and newspapers were warning of the dangers of investing vast sums in a financially insecure country with a population smaller than the borough of Croydon from January this year, on this site Icesave was zealously promoted and even an official PR officer from Icesave was allowed to post here denying the warnings without any intervention or balancing post from Martin Lewis or his staff.

Instead he was posting here claiming that National Savings premium bonds were a scam - which is a little ironic.

The people who did post here advising caution were doing the job he should have been doing and has been financially rewarded very well for.

I hope in future that someone who styles himself as "The Money Saving Expert", and earning a great deal of money as a result, will take his responsibilities a little more seriously and not ignore the many warnings as was done in the past.

Ultimately we all have to take responsibilities for our our actions rather than rely on self-styled "Experts" or the tax payer to bail us out, which was why I and many others avoided Icesave.

I too stand amazed at the way people want to blame someone else - anyone else - except themselves! I suppose it is all part of the 'blame culture' that the country has descended into over the past few decades. Walk into a lamppost? Blame the council for putting it there, etc.!

No one was forced to put their money anywhere. This site clearly states at all times that it does not constitute financial advice. If you're willing to invest huge sums of money off of the back of completely anonymous strangers on forums like these, or the single advice of one website, then you have to take responsibility for it.

If I walked up to you in the street, and said - "I'll tell you where you need to put £20k of your life's savings...", would you simply say - "Thanks for the tip - I'll get right on to it!", or would you at least do a bit of investigation yourself first? If you did that investigation and were satisfied that what I told you stand up, then you accepted the risk, based on your own investigation! If you didn't do the investigation, then more fool you - that was your decision - no-one else's!

Stop trying to blame other people for your own decisions. I have money in Icesave - I hope to get it all back. It was my decision to put it there, I knew the pro's and con's, I'd read the forums here and Martin's advice, and I'd looked at other sites elsewhere are well, and now I just have to accept - along with everyone else - that in hindsight this wasn't my greatest move. But it was my decision and no-one else's!

At this point until we have some concrete proof and reassurances an apology to Martin is way down the list of priorities.

Personally, I don't think apologies to Martin from the folks who were dead-quick with bizarre accusations should be low down the priority list (for those people who made the posts).

It would take them all but a minute to retract their irrational and emotional posts (which were inappropriate regardless of the Alistair Darling/Gordon Brown statements made on TV this morning).

Sad to see that further accusations of other people have now started in this thread - for goodness sake, people, grow up! Accusing Martin or others on this board for the financial issues is
    1. quite childish and
    2. won't get anyone a penny back

Thought I would start a new thread in which those people who so utterly unbelievably accused/blamed Martin for the Icesave debacle can now offer their formal apologies.

Given this morning's statement from Alistair Darling that Icesave customers will have all (not just £50K, like savers with UK banks do) of their savings protected, it is now time for all those who made rush and irrational comments to come out and eat humblepie.

Come on everyone who made those posts, everyone can made a mistake, it shows character to admit it!

Please stop with this nonsense. It's not helping people like me who actually have money in IceSave. For the record I NEVER accused Martin. There seems to be a lot of people with a lot to say that aren't actually involved in the situation at all!

    Could I make a suggestion?

Those people who think Martin has given bad advice, and who think this site is to blame for Iceland's apparent bankruptcy, could vote with their feet and leave this site to those of us who are happy to be here and who accept that the unprecendented financial meltdown that we are witnessing is a global phenomenon that not even world governments have predicted - let alone one Mr M. Lewis.

    This is an internet site.

No-one is forcing anyone to be here.

If you don't like it, go somewhere else!
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

Unfortunately, now every British taxpayer is involved. It looks as if those who had more sense are going to have to stump up to compensate those who ignored all the warnings, including those from Martin Lewis if he's to be believed.

I too have money in Icesave. A lot. I too am nervous but hopeful about getting it back.

I didn't start this thread for people who didn't accuse Martin, but for those who did. And I still believe they should apologise - whether they will be big enough to admit their errors remains to be seen.
