    .

AFAIK the tax disc simply has to be "displayed" - it does not have to be fixed to the windscreen .... does it?

    Actually it does (if it's a car, with a windscreen)...taken from direct.gov.uk/motoring

    Display your tax disc

Display a tax disc on the passenger side (kerb side) of the vehicle’s windscreen. If there’s no windscreen or you have a motorcycle or sidecar, display the tax disc on the kerb side of the vehicle.

Just count yourself lucky it wasn't a fine and get a new holder - round my way they've been CLAMPING cars without a valid tax disc showing

    Hi,

The form you got was probably a CLA2/6 (or equivalent). They can be issued by Police Officers, Traffic Wardens and PCSO's. (take your pick!).

Its unlikely the DVLA will persue it if you have valid tax, but as stated above it should be clearly displayed on windscreen. I would get a new holder asap. if the DVLA had happened to have been out and about you may have got clamped!

It was displayed. It was clearly visible on the dashboard. All of the details could be read, including the vehicle reg and the expiry date. It was placed where it has been for the past 9 or so months. The officer simply didn't look - I suspect he saw the mark on the windscreen and simply jumped to a conclusion ... the wrong one.

I think it does, and more specifically to the nearside.

MrsLA was once stopped because the tax disc was on the offside and the busy advised her to move it to the nearside.

    Get one of these.

They're brilliant because the removable back doesn't disturb the bit stuck to the screen.

I've got a magnetic one. But the inside ring didn't fix "permanently to the windscreen". That's the bit that's dropped off and I need to re-affix it. Going to try that "glass bond" that you use to fix the glass door on an oven, to the housing.

I remember being told by a police officer many years ago that

"It must be displayed on the nearside of the windscreen at a height so that it can be easily read be those having lawful authority to do so"
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

sorry to be pedantic, but in your original post you said it expires 30/07/09, so that means you can not have had the disk for longer than 3 months, so how can it have been there for the last 9 months?, Dave
