Police Warning Notice - No Tax

I had a "Police Warning Notice" attached to my windscreen today, for failing to display a tax disc.
The tax disc was no longer attached to the inside of the windscreen - the glue has worn off and there's just a ring-mark to show where it used to be.
The disc was and has been placed on the dashboard, directly underneath the mark. It's clearly visible if you stand close enough to the vehicle - but not if you stand a couple of feet away. I rather suspect that the ticket was issued "in haste" by someone who didn't bother to look too closely.
According to the notice, the Police have reported me to the DVLA - I don't have a problem with this as their records will show that the vehicle has a tax disc with an expiry date of 30.07.09.
Do I need to do anything? I've already attempted to restick the tax disc holder back onto the windscreen - time will tell whether it stays on or not
Thanks

Get a new tax disc holder. They cost next to nothing
use a bit of glass cleaner or meths on the glass first to help it stick on.

Feel lucky that they havent fined you. The fineable offence isnt not having a valid disc but failing to display a valid disc.
I got fined a couple of years ago for not displaying a disc when I was in the DVLA car park trying to get the bloomin disc they'd consistantly failed to post to me, and despite getting in touch with the police and the DVLA themselves there was nothing that they could apparently do to remove the fine - despite that from where I lived there was no earthly way I could have got to the office and back on public transport (bitter me nah). It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

It was displayed. It was clearly visible on the dashboard. All of the details could be read, including the vehicle reg and the expiry date. It was placed where it has been for the past 9 or so months. The officer simply didn't look - I suspect he saw the mark on the windscreen and simply jumped to a conclusion ... the wrong one.
AFAIK the tax disc simply has to be "displayed" - it does not have to be fixed to the windscreen .... does it?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I beleive so although I could be wrong, though since the warning was for not displaying a disc a lazy officer who didnt bother to look closely enough could just as easily have issued a penalty notice rather than simply a warning. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Which is interesting as I thought that! Why not just issue the FPN?
Bloomin plodsOK, it's a p!key-van (Pajero) in an area plagued by p!keys, but I was in Laura Ashley at the time :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My guess and its a long shot, said lazy plod radio'd for a check against the number plate and discovered that you do have a valid tax disc but werent - to their eye - displaying it. But you'd have thought that before doing that they'd have checked closer.
I'd ask the tame plod but she's probably asleep and her blerk doesnt like me calling at strange times of the day. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

It was nice of them just to give you a warning and not issue a penalty. You should buy a new tax disc holder from the post office.0

Aha - that makes sense! Interestingly, there is nothing on the notice that could identify "who" issued it. It's official-looking but unlike other similar notices, it doesn't identify who wrote it i.e. no PC number (or whatever it is), not even the name of the Station.I'd ask the tame plod but she's probably asleep and her blerk doesnt like me calling at strange times of the day.
For Heavens' sake, don't annoy the plods! Or there better/worse arfsWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
That is odd, I thought they had to put on who issued it?
As for not annoying plod and her blerk - I have to be good at somethingIt’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
