Thanks for your reply, this is interesting so my uncle and my auntie have 2 cars - a fiesta and a punto. My auntie is the registered keeper and main driver of the fiesta (and my uncle vice versa for the punto) but they drive each others cars is that fronting?

Also, my cousin is registered keeper and named driver on her car and her husband is main driver as this is the only way they could afford to insure it is that classed as fronting? (she is 24 her husband is 30)

The main reason im asking is, if you are married and both use the vehicle/are insured for the vehicle, live in the same house etc why should it matter? Is it just a ploy for insurance companies to refuse pay outs?

I know a lot of people who use cars in this way and im certain not one of them has been told its illegal.

I guess it's difficult to define the "main driver" as well. Some might say the person who drives most, but if take for example my sister and her partner, they have a car insured in his name with her named driver. She drives to work and back in it and he catches the train. But every other time he tends to drive it every other time other than when she is driving to work and back.

I guess the distinction is clearer when there's two cars and in the situation of the child being the main driver with the car at university, but insured under parent's name.
  • Thanks for the replies.

Its SORN at the moment as I'm going for a job interview on Saturday, get some income lol, Its taken months to get just one interview.
Got my driving test on wednesday and driving instructor says I should pass with no troubles. Straight after that I will do my passplus, So I can get the 30% off the full amount. £92 a month will be less of a strain.

And yeap tried every insurance provider under the sun, Direct line's cheapest but doesn't show up on quote comparison sites. Maybe after a few months I will change to a better car.
