Kaupthing - my transfer out isn't happening - am I doing something wrong?

Set up a transfer out this evening (has to be dated 08/10 ). Everything seemed to go fine and I swear after I looked at the account post transfer instruction the balance only showed pence.

Because I'm spooked by the Icesave situation, I just went back in to double check. My balance is back to the pre-instruction balance ??

So I re-did it, this time opting for chaps. Although the final screen 'hiccuped' a few times, it seemed to be accepted. BUT THE BALANCE STILL HASN'T CHANGED.

I can't find anything to show 'pending' transfers ?? Is there a pending screen ? Am I mad in thinking that the KE balance should immediately reflect the transfer request. I've transferred out before, and I've done exactly the same. Do I have to leave a minimum balance of ?? or the system rejects the request ?

Starting to panic - I'm not going mad am I ??

Have you looked at the statement (list of transactions) rather than just the current balance? There's an icon that looks like a page with lines of writing on it. Click on that, it'll probably show you it (they!) are queued up to go through tomorrow.

I had mega problems withdrawing from KE on Sunday evening and I also put a message up on this forum just to be slated by everyone for being a scaremonger.

I did finally manage to get my transfer through and the balance did change. I tried another transfer earlier today and I have had the same problem that you have had. I think you (and I) and others have good reason to be worried despite all the assurances from others who will probably respond to this thread.

In addition, I sent them a message abou the problem through the secure messaging service and I still haven't had a response. If you are thinking of calling them forget it. I have tried and wasted a lot of time. You would think that in this time of termoil they would go the extra mile to support their customer base. I think this lack of support and issues with their website sums up what they think of us.

In summary I am sick of KE and I will be withdrawing my last few pence from their bank asap.

Yes, I've looked at the statement - no transfer out showing ( though I swear it was on first attempt ). But definately not now.

they are probably a bit busy because of people like you overloading the system, if you took time to read the T&C first, you would have known about transactions during the weekend being carried out on the first working weekday

Should I be leaving a minimum balance - I am not closing the account.

More importantly, should I keep inputting the transfer ??? I don't want to line up loads of replica's - surely the transfer must show up in the balance or statement section if accepted ? But then I swear it did show up after I first did it, but then disappeared.

I think that the min balance is now £1 (reduced from £100 in June). Remember to leave enough slack to pay for the £20 CHAPS fee if you are using CHAPS.

Probably best to phone them in the morning of you are in doubt. Nothing's gonna be processed tonight.
  • I transfered all but £1 from my account earlier by CHAPS and it showed up immediately, just checked again and its still showing £1 balance. I think by transfering twice you may end up with them trying to action two withdrawals tomorrow and neither of them going through. Youd better call them in the morning and explain the situation

Of course why didn't I think of that. So because transactions occur the following working day the web site rejects your request. You need to wake up and smell the coffee. You should also have a look at other banks websites where you can request a transaction anytime of the day or night and it will be STORED ready for the following day transactions. Also from my experience this has also been the case with KE in the past.
