    The crucial 1 GB, Part #: CT12864Z40B • DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V •

is £19.96 inc VAT, minus 7% equals £18.56

    surely that's close enough ??

That would be well enough if Crucial weren't quoting me 21.14 for the same module. Another reason to avoid.

Bex, methinks we're fighting a losing battle with this.....

Yes, you are wasting your time quoting higher prices than have been shown to be available for the item required.

14.99 from play.com. Why are you and BexTech trying to pretend that you have something more to contribute?

Wonder if there are different prices for different ways of accessing into their site?

I usually just get people to use the website as a guide and send me the details and then work from there.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Yeah. Donnie links to two from Play and only £1 in it too.

I think they're just someone who has some idea, but as we know a little knowledge is dangerous.

As I wrote before, you've nothing to contribute, you are just piggybacking off someone else's work.

How about your take your 20 years of working with PCs off to a thread and try to help someone all by yourself?

I was recommending the one from Play. However the PC3200, just as I would any other client if their board can take it, for the obvious reasons.

Please don't play at being knowledgeable.

I don't need to play at being knowledgeable.

The "obvious reasons" that you mention can't be that obvious as you have failed miserably to explain them.
I've always thought that someone who really knew his subject could explain it to a child.

You earlier explanation about maybe wanting to purchase another 1 GB module was patently ridiculous.

Don't try to bluff your way through this. You will come unstuck...for all the the obvious reasons. ;)

donnie - I used the memory adviser tool, with the OP's mobo (ASRock K7S41)and got that price. If you copy the part no. into crucial's search box, it comes up with the same price for the modules. How are you getting £21-odd??

I see you had no answer for your incorrect remark of me piggybacking when in fact it was you piggybacking and I was the first to offer help and you came late into the thread and then piggybacked off others.

Um, latency timings are only useful in comparing same standard base RAM modules - i.e. PC2700 to PC2700, or PC3200 to PC3200. They are not a significant factor in comparing PC2700 modules to PC3200 modules, as PC3200 modules are inherently faster due to their higher clock and I/O bus speeds, lower cycle time, and significantly higher data transfer/sec count. Therefore, a 0.5 latency advantage in a PC2700 module won't even get close to catching up with the PC3200 module, let alone go faster.

Actually, the best clue is in the module names themselves. PC2700 is so called because it has a peak transfer rate of 2700MB/s, and PC3200 because it has a peak transfer rate of 3200 MB/s. That's an 18% raw speed advantage to the PC3200...
Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek... ;)

No, you didn't say he should get it from Crucial, you in fact referred to the play.com links that I produced.

I must have missed it. Can you show me where you have suggested to the PM he should specifically look for a PC3200 module to match the latency timing of the PC2700?

The reason why I asked for you explanation is that I wanted to see if you would mention this general difference.

With my 'little' knowledge I know that, in general PC2700 has lower latency timings than PC3200. With "20 years of experience", you too should have known this.

Instead, you recommended the OP buy the 'slower' option of the PC3200 to which I linked.

I told you that you would come unstuck.

I haven't written or sent a PM to you. Only received two from you. Have you a multiple personality complex?

I do actually, yes and is what some of the medication I take is for. Thanks for your concern.

However I am not the one who has come unstuck.

Now can we stop this nonsense, and concentrate on the issue I came on here for and that is to help the OP.
