I use windows XP and presume its similar for other versions - go to control panel ( from the start menu ) then select internet options, it then gives you a screen with temporary internet files amongst other things.0

In XP they are located in the local settings folder.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

You can't find them because Windows XP (and some earlier versions) hide them by default. You can go into the "Tools->Folder Options" menu in Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer), and on the "View" tab you can select the "Show hidden files" button. That will mean you can see (and modify and delete!) all files on your PC - even crucial ones that might cause irreperable damage.gigif30 wrote:could someone please tell me how to find these files i have tried going into c:\documents and settings but i couldnt find anything

An alternative is to open the options for Internet Explorer. Under "Temporary Internet Files" on the "General" tab, select the "Settings" button, and on the next dialog box select the "View Files" button.
If you want to see them regualrly, you can just type the actual directory into an explorer window. For my PC, they are "C:\Documents and Settings\MY_USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files".
For the more technically minded, just be aware that what Windows shows in the explorer window for the "Temporary Internet Files" is not what is actually stored on the disk. However, you can manipulate the files almost as if they were, so the net effect is hardly noticeable.Jumbo

How to Delete IE cache on exit (the easy way). (for XP)
Save the text between the --'s to a file called clean.reg
--
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache]
"Persistent"=dword:00000000
---
double click on clean.reg
You will get a message asking "Are you sure you want to add the information to the registry".. , click yes.
From now on, your cache is automatically emptied every time you close IE, so there is no need to do anything manually again (unless you want to scrub the deleted file data completely so that it can never be recovered).Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Or as described in post #5 www.ccleaner.com0

Is that really you? :rolleyes:0
