who next....Kaupthing edge??

I am now firmly back in good old cahoot. I have to say I am a bit miffed at losing my 6.55% paid monthly and having to live with the uncertainty that all this turmoil brings. One question that needs answering as far as I am concerned is wether or not, K.E. will go into receivership? certainly everything that has been published seems to suggest that they are in fairly good shape, do you know different.
Love your son.

KE does seem at least on paper clearly stronger than Icesave and since they are the last bank standing in Iceland I would assume that they won't allow them to go bust whatever the costs. Also they recently got 500mill euros of support from the government so that will help as well. For now KE seems to be doing ok but for the future...who knows. Personally I feel that the Icelandic banking sector is in turmoil and am not going to take any risks with my hard earned cash.
  • Nobody knows who will be next. There may not be a next bank, there may be loads. But speculation on which bank will go bust next is not helpful, because what is speculated will happen in this market.

  • Hi

As you can see, this is my first post but I've been a follower of this site for a good while now. I've found loads of useful info from forums and weekly emails and hope to give something useful back regarding Kaupthing Edge. As a saver with them myself, I've just gone to their homepage and have noticed that they have added an important announcements section to the log in screen link here https://www.kaupthingedge.com/UKLogin

Basically they are confirming that they are a UK bank that is UK authorised and regulated. I hope that this will help restore some confidence during these difficult times and that other money savers will realise that their savings are as safe as if they were in any other UK savings account. On the basis of this, I've decided to leave my savings where they are and continue enjoying wonderful monthly interest payments.

An other important thing to note is that KE says on their website that all deposits are held in the UK not in Iceland.

HBOS,LTSB,RBS are just as likely to go into receivership as KE UK is
chaps £20k out KE 06/10 in A&L 06/10 same day
  • Kudos to Kaupthing for a steady flow of clear information and updates on their website over the last few days.....
  • This is my first post, although I`ve been a follower of the site for some time.
My wife has been trying to make a scheduled withdrawal from her Kaupthing Edge account since Sunday.
    so far, no success.
The website behaves as you would expect, whilst entering the details of the required transfer back to her linked account.
Then, when she selects "Confirm" nothing happens.
Eventually, the session times out and returns to the log in page.
She has tried it a couple of dozen times now.
Can anyone offer any help please?

  • I have just checked my KE account and saw the info on the site, it was reassuring.
I have to say that I think any bank is at risk, after all who saw Halifax's problems coming???I will be leaving my money where it is for now, after all it has the same protection as any other UK bank and from what I understand KE is a UK subsiduary(sp?)of an icelandic bank. So most of the UK's banks seem to be owned now by other banks in other countries eg Abbey/santander from Spain, should we be worried about every single high street bank? who knows....
maybe I should keep all my money under my mattress?lol
  • Be patient. Loads of people are probably panicking unnecessarily to transfer money out of savings accounts as they are not aware that they are protected up to £50k same as any other UK bank.

It could be your computer / browser, clear all the cookies / cache and try again.

Better still run the free CCleaner to clean all the junk quickly.
I and many others constantly recommend this on the MSE Tech forum, pop over and hav a read.

I've been using KE website all day today, moved a bit out to test everything is still ok, no problems. Impressed to by the constant updates re their protection etc.

If you still have problems give them a ring, I'm sure they will help. 08451 31 32 33
