thankfully, no!Chap on the tele says £4 billion has been put in icesave by Brits.
I would take any money I had in Icelandic banks and put it somewhere safe. I would have done this before now because these banks have looked dices for some time.0 -

However, I do feel for those who need to get at their cash quickly for whatever reason.
I don't want to panic you but while normally 'nationalised = good for depositors' in the case of Iceland, the nation consists of around 300,000 people.
There's no way that they can possibly hope to cover the liabilities of their big banks.
Sky News are reporting that Icesave savers will have to apply for compensation:

The Banking Compensation Scheme "expects (Icelandic internet bank) Icesave to default", meaning 300,000 UK savers may need to claim compensation.
I think you should be OK in the end but this may be a long drawn-out process.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -
Yes, less than £50kJust the interest in Icesave £ 256 and £250 due 19/10. I took the main balance out end of Sept. I do have a fixed bond with Heritable bank due this month.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Good luck peeps trying to get your money back from Iceland, you'll have a long wait.
In these situations you'll find Iceland will delay as long as possible paying out as the whole countries economy is up the creek without an igloo.0 -
thankfully, no!My mortgage and my savings are with Building Societies. I use banks for banking (ready cash).
If I had STR's earlier this year, I think I may have deposited up to the £35K (guaranteed savings) in some banks including Icesave.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0 -
thankfully, no!nope, although only because a glitch from housemoving meant that my icesave accoujnt wasnt set up properly ( my fault) once I moved I went for KE & deposited money there. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Just found out this evening that the guy buying our house had had his large deposit with Icesave. Fortunately he decided to ignore the solicitors assurances that the money could be paid on completion and decided to transfer the money to the relevant account on exchange. Phewww!! that was close!0

No.. but we did buy some chicken nuggets from there on the strength of a TV advert by some attractive, if rather strident young strumpet. They weren't very nice.0
