Would you expect a FULL refund to include the postage costs ?

I bought a leather jacket on Ebay, it was described as great condition, when it arrived it had a small tear above the pocket in the leather, was covered in marks and stains, the stitching around the colar was coming undone and it smelt dreadful.I emailed the seller an they replied saying please send it back and a full refund will be given.I have just got an email sying the cost of the jacket has been refunded, but it has cost me the £4.50 postage the seller charged and the £2.70 it cost me to return it, not to mention the dissapointment and time waisting.
Now I would expect a full refund to include the original postage costs, but proberbly not what it cost me to return, what do you think? And are there any other steps I should take ,other than leave bad feedback- which they will proberbly give back to me.

Most sellers will only refund the amount the item actually sold for but ideally you should receive the postage amount from the original item but as expected you would not receive anything towards sending it back.
At the end of the day it's down to the seller on how much they give you back, you could try going through ebay but from my experience ebal and paypal are useless0 -
Hiya
unfortunatley it is not a requirement for the seller to refund postage costs :-(
morally though, they should
best thing you can do is take a neg on the chin unfortunatley :-(money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

A well-worded negative will hopefully cost the seller more than £4.50 in the long run, anyway, so more fool them.0

I have always understood the term "full refund" to mean a refund of the money paid, including p&p, but not return postage. If the seller had just said a "refund" I might have suspected they meant purchase price only, in which case I would ask them to clarify if this is what they meant.
I would normally expected used leather garments to need cleaning unless otherwise stated, but obviously staining not likely to be remedied by standard professional cleaning is unacceptable unless specified, as is the other danmage you mentioned.0 -
Hi
I would expect a full refund but its up to the seller to make that call.
Theres 2 side to this particular argument .
1 you have a buyer who gets the item then says its not what they want thus wanting a refund.
2 Like your goodself gets a item that is not as described.
Imho a well worded neg will defo cost the seller in they long run.

ebay should protect buyers from problems arising like this. i know there'll always be someone that might buy a dvd or cd and copy it then complain but why should a buyer have to lose money on a badly described item of clothing?
i'd give them a big fat negative.0 -
Being a seller myself if something arrives that is damaged (occassionally happens) or not as described I ALWAYS pay for return postage. I send out pre-paid envelopes for the buyer to return the goods if they are unhappy. It really is not worth the negative. Write to the sellers and say that you was disappointed that the postage had not been reimbused and ask if it is going to be sent and that at the moment you are out of pocket and are they going to refund your postage costs. If they say no then neg. However, might be worth checking through the sellers 'feedback left for others' page first as they may leave a lot of retailitory negs and then it is not worth it if your feedback rating is untarnished and you want to keep it this way. I hate sellers like this but it happens. I leave it regardless and when someone has paid but many do not so be warned!0

by the sounds of it you have had to return the item the yes you should have got a postage refund. I do to all my buyers that either send me back the item or send me digi pictures of the item damaged. Why should you be out of pocket by - yes i know its tuppance - a few pounds just because they seller mis described!!
Its amazing how many seller work this way0 -
its a shame people like postingalwaysposting and blue monkey can't advertise on here, or put their policies on ebay. but i'd imagine there'd be problems arising from sellers too?
sometimes i feel like having the delivery, postage and unwrapping of some ebay buys on camera.0 -
i wouldnt want to advertise here mike
the whole point i like ebay is that you have to put the effort in yourself ie describtions etc to make a sale
i do kinda put my policies on ebay as i am seen on the forums there too (same id). Many sellers dont agree though and at the end of the day many are ther to make money but you have to be fair - taking peoples money that clearly shouldnt be yours to take is wrong (thats my point of view anyway)0
