suppose that depends on what the animation is - - I have temporarily 'borrowed' gizmo's avatar just to demo that the 3.95KB one doesn't look any different to the 13.95KB one

I'll revert back to my old avatar soon........

So what did you use to resize that as I tried PIXresizer but all
I got was a grainey looking static pic.

Oh by the way when beginning an animation from a jpg what do you save the picture as first to reduce the size so when a load of frames are made the file size is still small.

i.e jpg or gif. I save as jpg but is there anything better at compression.

I didn't use any resizer for this one, but JASC Animation Shop (which comes with Paintshop Pro). Gizmo has 10 frames with an 8ms/frame duration. Since all those frames are basically the same, I deleted 8 frames and set the duration for the remaining 2 to 20. So the savings basically comes from using fewer images.

Not so easy to do with yours because your frames are all different, and it also looks as if it is already pretty well optimised. Max I can shave off is .01KB lol!!

But then, I am more or less a total layperson on this......I hadn't played with animations before, and all I know is that JPGs usually give better quality and use more space, but often GIFs are perfectly sufficient and use much less space. Not the case with your animation, though :D

Anyway, I'm now going to change my avatar back before Gizmo comes after me for nicking his!!

I am not really familiar with animated gifs, but just played with gizmoleads' one in Paintshop Animation Shop. By deleting a few frames and changing the frame duration, I've got a 3.95KB version that looks and behaves exactly like the 13.5KB version.

Just so you know - I made mine in PSP and Animation shop, and I very much doubt a 2 frame one would look as good (wouldn't mind seeing it). It originally had 80 frames () but I shrank it to 10 to get it within the limit.

If you want me to explain how I got the snow effect and forward you the transparent snow layer to use on your own I will happily do so - just PM me.

  • I've often wondered what these little animations are, where can I get them from, how can I learn more, can they be added to emails+

I'm a bit confused about the sizes - when I look at Properties, they are larger than innovate mentioned above - intel 33270, gizmo 65449, innovate 1260, m00nie 19802

That is odd - cos I just looked at the properties for mine and it said 14,321 bytes (14kb)
