  • There seems to be 2 Dell deals on this thread: the 9150 and 5150? Which is the better deal? And how good a deal is it?

We've talked about getting a new computer and I keep seeing Dell deals periodically posted on here, but I'm not sure which is the best deal??? Should I buy now? Or hang on a bit longer?

    Thanks in advance,
    Joanne

Do you need the extra slots of the 9150? Do you need the smaller case size of the 5150? I don't and I do so I went for the 5150 & 20" for £505

Hello all - do either computers listed here include firewire and a sound card? Can't fathom it from Dell's website !
    Thanks

You can select as an option under 'video editing' a 'IEEE 1394 PCI Adapter card [add £17.63 or £1/month1]' which is a firewire port. As you can see, not that expensive.

They all have built in sound but you have the option of selecting a better sound card. The Soundblaster Live card with surround sound etc is about £20 +VAT extra (if you can be bothered!)

It would seem that the 9150 (which I've just ordered!!!) is capable of accepting 'dual core' processors which are the next big thing - you can see them on the website as an upgrade option.

There isnt much of a difference in both pcs , they both use the same processors. I guess it all down to what parts of the pc are more important to you. Personally i would go with the 5150 as its an all round package whilst the 9150 is somewhat future proof in that it has extra slots and i presume able to upgrade to dual processors but it has the basic hard drive, ram and screen. Not much in it though considering 9150 is cheaper.

Thought I would share that I have just ordered the 9150 without monitor (have to tephone them and go through hell to do this) for £320 inc VAT & Delivery.

As we are upgrading a current PC we did not want the monitor... very happy with a machine that spec for the price....

Thanks to the OP for pointing this deal out.

    I think he means a 19inch tft which is e-value code D12512a at £505.
