I really am stunned at the sort of posts appearing here, the good knowledgeable regulars are being treated with utter comptempt by people with incorrect information.

We all have savings in Iceland, presumably that is why we are here, we are all concerned, but be nice if we could stick to the facts and not totally panic.
Your money is not more important than mine, we all work hard to save!

isofas post #26 shows exactly shows exactly, and correctly how we are protected in both Kaupthing (fully - FSCS) and Icesave - slightly less well protected with passport+FSCS top-up.

I think many posters are angry because many of the regulars have been stiffling discusion for months. They have effectively put a block on rational discussion with their never ending rants that everything is fine and their inability to acknowlege that not being able to access money while you wait in a queue to get your money back will be a right pain.

I'm sure one will be along soon to start screaming at me....

The fact is the Icelandic Govt has one concern & one concern only right now, & that is it's own citizens. UK savers won't even be on the radar.

That's why our Government should be taking control of this situation on our behalf, instead of sitting with their thumb up their !!!.

My point exactly. I still fail to see where I'm scaremongering. My point is that for many people, this is too close for comfort and everyone has the freedom to choose where to put their money. Sanity will prevail.

Fair enough. That one has also been reported due to personal abuse.
Please back this up with evidence.

Calling you foolish for posting misinformation isn't abuse. I just can't understand why you are persisting in posting such misinformation, presumably to further worry others?

You are totally incorrect about Kaupthing, yet you continue to post about it.

I've posted a link for you, that you have ignored, so here is it again:

    Here it is again: http://www.kaupthingedge.co.uk/about/fscs.aspx

"Kaupthing Edge. Payments under this scheme are limited to 100% of the first £50,000 per account holder of all your deposits with us. This means that the maximum claim amount is £50,000."

This is NOT the same as Icesave. Read my earlier full post which is 100% correct.

On a side note, I've reported gax too - there's absolutely no need for that kind of misinformation to be posted at such a fragile time.

So we're censoring other people's opinions as well now? You're not satisfied that they might just lose their life savings? Pathetic :rolleyes2

    Agreed, no need to panic.

But personally I am a little anxious. We've got cash ISAs with Icesave, opened on the basis that they are instant access accounts. But, as of now, they're not. I want to make a withdrawal soon. Will I be able to?

If the Bank does collapse, I am confident our money would be safe. But I fear it could be months before we see it again.

So, panic -no, but slight anxiety - yes.

I feel for you - that's the real worry that many people face. Lots of people might be alright with their 'substantial savings' but there are many people out there who aren't fortunate enough to be in that position and are stuck in between a rock and a hard place. Unfortunately, there seems to be little support from anyone in a position of power at the moment. Losing your life savings, even if only for a few months can be catastrophic.
  • Will anyone who has every had to claim from the FSCS please post and tell us that it worked perfectly?

It wasn't an opinion, you presented it as a fact, a completely incorrect fact at that - and one that could quite easily cause many people a lot of inconvenience, and genuinely some some way to screwing up a company that is already in a fairly fragile state.

No need for it at all, sort yourself out gax23.
