Facts, Ladies and Gentlemen, please....The Icelandic fund is a private concern.... http://www.tryggingarsjodur.is/0

I really am stunned at the sort of posts appearing here, the good knowledgeable regulars are being treated with utter comptempt by people with incorrect information.
We all have savings in Iceland, presumably that is why we are here, we are all concerned, but be nice if we could stick to the facts and not totally panic.
Your money is not more important than mine, we all work hard to save!
isofas post #26 shows exactly shows exactly, and correctly how we are protected in both Kaupthing (fully - FSCS) and Icesave - slightly less well protected with passport+FSCS top-up.0 -
me too 1 account i closed and did a CHAPS and an isa by bacs -I am trying to be calm
I don't blame you. The whole situation is very scary for a lot of people and it's entirely unfair that some high-and-mighty people on this forum think they have the right to tell people what to do with their money. They lose nothing by you, me, or anyone else emptying one bank account and putting their money elsewhere, yet they keep harping on about how we shouldn't do it. It's outrageous, to be quite honest.
Unfortunately, there's not many other alternatives other than Northern Rock, which is now nationalised. I don't think they're even accepting new accounts at the moment due to the 1.5% limit they now have. Looks like shoeboxes under the bed may be the only option :rotfl:0 -
I would suggest that anyone feeling sanguine about savings with Icesave should have a read of this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/iceland/3147806/Financial-crisis-Full-statement-by-Icelands-prime-minister-Geir-Haarde.html
After reading that, and in the light of today's freezing of Icesave accounts, it seems clear that there *is* good reason to be concerned about the first 20,000 euros of savings in Icesave. Anyone who claims otherwise is, to say the least, complacent, and IMHO anyone who pulled their money out in the last few days did exactly the right thing.
And yes, that does include me, and no, I don't consider that I have any responsibility for the potential effect of a run on this bank. It's my money and I'm under no obligation to involuntarily risk it in supporting what must currently be the world's dodgiest retail bank, or it's other unfortunate customers.
As for the person who claims this is "selfish", how so? It's my money in a commercial bank (or not, now), it's not a charity.Je suis Charlie.0 -

And what business is it of yours if someone else moves their money away from an Icelandic bank? Seriously? Does it really impact your life at all? No, but if the bank goes tits up, it will impact theirs big time. Stop being so irresponsible.0 -
Fair enough. That one has also been reported due to personal abuse.
Please back this up with evidence.
Are you totally incapable of reading?
It has been covered over and over again - can other posters please point this person in the right direction, as he is ignoring others posting the correct information.0 -
A lot has changed since that announcement.0

On a side note, I've reported gax too - there's absolutely no need for that kind of misinformation to be posted at such a fragile time.0

Agreed, no need to panic.
But personally I am a little anxious. We've got cash ISAs with Icesave, opened on the basis that they are instant access accounts. But, as of now, they're not. I want to make a withdrawal soon. Will I be able to?
If the Bank does collapse, I am confident our money would be safe. But I fear it could be months before we see it again.
So, panic -no, but slight anxiety - yes. However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -

Thankyou. Finally some sanity. The only "selfish" people are those people who have absolutely no business as to where someone else keeps their money, yet they seem to think they can tell everyone what to do with it based on their own blinkered ignorance.0
