Because there's no risk (up to £50,000), and they offer the best interest rates. That's why.

The reason they offer the best interest rates is because there is some risk. There's always some risk, unless you are in NS&I, and then, as expected, the rates are much lower.

I am confident the FSCS applies totally to KE. That is nice and essential to have, but, what if several banks were to collapse together, within the space of a few months. Where would the UK government suddenly come up with tens of £billion for the payout? From the banks? They only have to cough up £4 billion a year, and they are desparate for cash as it is. And how many months would I have to wait for the FSCS to pay out? 6? 12? 18? Would I get interest over that time? And has anyone ever tried this compenstation process for purely internet accounts?

And what-happens if KE doesn't go bust, but just prevents depositors from making withdrawal. Does the FSCS apply then?

For me, there are too many unknowns, too many chances for problems. Why take the risk? Pull you cash out, take the 5.8% instead of 6.8%, and find a larger UK bank that is under less doubt.

I'm just back from hol and tried to login to my account. I can't remember my user name, anyone any idea of a quick way to find it, I'm not sure if it was my memorable word?

Your user name is a combination of letters and numbers which KE will have allocated to you.

That depends when you set your account up. If it is a older account your username is your email address you signed up with. Then you have to enter your memorable word and then three random characters from your password.

Too many lemmings phoning at the same time. :rotfl:

Hello, Apologies for posting this, but Napoleon for the last day or so you have been, in my eyes, one of the worst people on this forum - before you slate me, I am a new to register, but not to be on this forum reading comments.

All you have done is call people that were panicking with a GENUINE worry lemmings. Now I am sure that you feel a bit stupid on this, telling all and sundry that your not moving your savings from Icesave/KE/Whatever and I fell sorry for you if you have lost anything from this. However I don't think your comments have been useful and may have in fact event encouraged people to take your view without researching it enough for themselves.

Personally I had £35K in KE on Sunday, But CHAPSed it out and recieved them in another account on Monday Morning and although KE has not said it is in trouble, the general Icelandic view is that the banks are in murky waters - no one really knows exactly what is going to happen.

All I am asking is for you to stop berating people for their concerns and if you feel stongly about something, say it constructively as opposed to saying their wife ran off with Magnus Magnusson - very helpful.
