Because you are being rude in your responses and the only reason you would be like that is if you are troll, a generally rude person or you are taking it personally because you stand to lose money and cannot debate or discuss without resorting to such rudeness.

I am only rude to you because I don't like your attitude. Waiting for the name of your organisation.
  • Dunston and others.... let's try to keep the conversation civilised please and stop blaming people for their offshore accounts. What's done is done, that's the past, and let's move on. Not everyone is expert in these matters and makes the right decisions. People make bad choices sometimes (that's if they have a choice).

I know feelings are running high but there are a lot of people potentially in trouble and we need to keep things constructive.

Dunston - As far as I am aware neither NS&I nor HSBC UK will open new accounts for non-residents. You said "there is no reason for expats to be offshore other than for tax reasons. Plenty of onshore banks will use overseas addresses". As you are an IFA with presumably experience in these matters, please do list those UK banks that you know of that will open new accounts for non-UK residents.

This information could be very useful for those wanting to keep their money onshore and avoid a future offshore calamity.

    Thank you.

Do you need any more than those two? You couldnt ask for more secure places.

I need more than 2 because I have more than 100000 to invest. Thought that might be obvious!

LOL - I suggest you read your posts again to see who has the attitude. This is a discussion board. Not a playground. If you disagree with something you put your argument across in the discussion. You dont start being abusive.

You post your home address then.

  • Thanks for your reply Macbiggles
So you are an ex Derbyshire saver too, did you get your money out in time?

I have read through the guarantee and have to admit it does sound like there could be some recourse. In your opinion now KP IOM is now in the process of liquidation do you think it is still considered a subsiduary?

My parents entire life savings are with them, its tearing me apart to see them going through this. HArdest part is hearing my mother cry as she may not be able to keep the house she wanted to spend the rets of her days through in. Guess there is a lot of pain out there at the moment and my thoughts go out to everyone

    Completely agree.

I apreciate your wish to debate however your "I told you so attitude" is understandably hitting nerves as peoples lives and families are on the verge of being ripped apart. Your lack of compassion is a keen indication that you too must be involved in some way in finance....you BANKER!!!!!

donal - I read somewhere that BACS payments leave the account on day1, sit in a holding account on day2 with the London intermediary bank, then go to the receiving bank on day3. If they arrived at the intermediary bank, maybe there is hope... but I really don't know.

I'll check with Anglo Irish again tomorrow, but don't hold out a lot of hope. The lady I spoke to said she'd spoken to a few people who had seen their transfer requests get executed on Tuesday, but there was no sign of the money!
  • Dunston and Ossigeno - Enough please. Drop the slanging-match.

Dunston - still waiting for your information on this - there are many expats who want to keep their money onshore but are having difficulty doing so.
  • Some more info on the approval of the new despositors protection scheme:

Contained in the second article is this "Meanwhile, there will be a meeting for Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander depositors at the Gaiety Theatre, at 4pm today."

Are there any IoM residents here that could attend this meeting and report back to us???
