    Isn't this slightly odd though?

If you need to compare it directly with another TV to see any difference, then surely such differences don't matter?

I don't know many people who watch TV with two TVs set up side-by-side. ;)

Surely if you sepnt money on a tv, youd be happiest KNOWING its the best you could buy for the money ;)

Wow just found this Panasonic one,
    http://www.laskys.com/tv_and_dvd/lcd_tvs/32_to_37_inches/panasonic_tx_37lxd85.html

It says it's £640 but ive just found someone stocking it for £540, surely I should get this?

There is this Panasonic one as well, cheapest I have found is £640 for this but then thats a bit over budget -

To be honest, Im not well up on the Panasonic LCDs. Their plasmas excel, but LCDs are a completely different kettle of fish, I wouldnt like to say without looking into it to be honest.

    Oh dear
Well I really recommend the Panasonic
But bare in mind, you may need to spend a little more on cables for it (And maybe the conditioner i posted for the other guy). A bigger screen means ANY faults will be easier to spot

To be honest, nobody can give you a definate answer to what is the best TV for your money, nobody will have had all models from all makers in their home to actually test.

Some sets are rubbish showing SD ..some are better etc etc.

Models vary even from the same brand.

I would suggest that if you have seen one that you like, are happy with, get one from a good retailer like John Lewis that give free delivery and a 5 year warranty.

i'm a toshiba fan, and just treated myself to a 40" LCD, with the picture frame bezel (the whole bezel is about 1.5cm all the way around, rather than the usual 4 - 5 cm!)

just now got to wait to get Sky HD for it... IMO, it isn't worth getting an LCD or a Plasma, unless you're actually going to give it something HD to display!

You really do need a PLASMA at that size. if you want the VERY best, go for a Pioneer
    Panasonic are the next best.
Samsungs are pretty good, but they have all sorts of software 'gimicks' switched on by default~ switch off all the extra 'c*ap' if you buy one. In the shop all the EXTRAs will almost certainly be switched ON. It makes it look good INITIALLY ~ but at the expense of REAL picture detail.

I had to go to Bluewater last week and during my lunch break had a wander around John lewis.

I have to agree the Pioneer plasma's are excellent but also very expensive.....

The main purpose was to get a look at the Panasonic plasma's. They also had an excellent picture. I was surprised by how good the Samsung 50 inch plasma was, about £200.00 cheaper, and disappointed with Sony's offerings.

Bare in mind that theyre probably set up wrong in there. Sonys in particular have a horrible 'smear' effect when one of the effects are switched on (So does my pioneer when its maxed out ~ its always best to switch them ALL off)
Cant go wrong with a Pana' Plasma though. What size are you after?

  • I am looking to buy DH a 46" or more tv for Xmas we have a 32" on wall at the moment, there is a 50" samsung plasma at £719 (799 less 10%) at additions direct and would like to know if it will have an ok picture or is it too large that goes wonky, iykwim. Alt at argos there is a 47" LG for £690 and I can buy vouchers at 5% off, what will be the better deal? HELP
  • I can't help you with any of your questions, but i can tell you NOT to buy a Sony Bravia if you are watching Standard Definition tv.
We get freeview digital as thats all we can get now the analogue signal has been switched off, and the picture is worse than awful.
Wish i had my old 28" toshiba back
Not ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j
